The sound balance was quite sketchy to begin with and the levels were definitely not quite right but the opening to the set was so good that most people didn't realize.

Sound: I don't know the names of the band members but the singer, Madden, was outstanding. He was walking around stage and every note was the right pitch and his diction was never at fault. Perhaps his greatest part was when he made 'Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous' last over 7 minutes. The sound balance was quite sketchy to begin with and the levels were definitely not quite right but the opening to the set was so good that most people didn't realize. The songs played sounded exactly as they do on the albums; obviously a well rehearsed act. // 7

Perfomance: The opening to the gig was immense, my friend had given me the ticket a week before it so I only had a week to figure out which songs were good and which were bad. I figured out that 'The River' and 'Keep Your Hands Off My Girl' were my favorites and two guesses how they started the gig. However, it is one of the worst feelings not knowing the lyrics to every song and those three or four minutes can be very boring. Something to note was when the lead singer stopped in the middle of 'Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous' to explain how wrong the media are for accusing them of playing a song which describes themselves. They told the story of how although they now are 'rich and famous' (excuse the pun)they most certainly were not when they first began. Another nice touch to the set was when the other Madden brother (not the lead singer) dedicated two songs to his daughter which were acoustic versions of two of the bands song. // 9

Impression: The show took place in England, London, Brixton Academy, Some time in April (22nd I believe) 2008. The support band were called 'Rooney' and were shockingly awful. The songs would begin nice and heavily and then a keyboard solo would ruin the mood. For me this ruined the gig and didn't leave high expectations for Good Charlotte. However, they recovered our poisoned minds with an excellent opening and generally good set. Moshing began instantly however, of the 2, 000 odd people seeing it about 20 were actually moving. For me the worst part of the show was the fact that there was no Encore and everywhere you looked there were 14 year old screaming girls Who only ever listen to Good Charlotte and also the 25 year old men with beard Who were there to see the band Who again they never stray away from. The ticket cost me £20, the poster cost me £1 (an 87.5% reduction on the price wanted inside the venue). The show was worth the money but I would have still paid the same amount even if there was no support act. I sensed that the lead singer had well rehearsed lines such as: "You are the best crowd we have ever played to!" However, these classic cliches could have been said to any number of audiences prior to our viewing. For this reason I wouldn't go to another of their gigs because I can see better bands for £20. // 8
