Sound: This was a concert that I had been waiting for about 2 months to go to. This Alkaline Trio concert was more than worth the 22$ I paid and the long wait. Matt Skiba was extremely energetic that night. Dan Adriano was just as awesome too! The whole show was so awesome. The only downfall was that when Matt Skiba would talk, it would be hard to understand. The rest of the shows sound was better than I had thought. // 10
Perfomance: This Alkaline Trio tour was called "The Occult Roots Tour." The band had decided on playing the whole entire Goddammit CD! They went through the CD from 1 to 12 in order. I was up front for the whole show! I don't remember all the names to the songs that were played but I know about 90% of them. After the Goddamit CD it went somewhat in order like this:
01. Blue In The Face - Matt Skiba had been out on the stage by himself with his acoustic guitar to play the last song on the GD CD. He then started to play this song when the crowd went insane. Despite the fact he messed up once, it was one of the best live acoustic songs I have ever heard.
02. Every Thug Needs A Lady (acoustic) - Matt Skiba left the stage only to be replaced by Dan to play "Every Thug Needs A Lady." This was an excellent song done acoustic but I thought that the electric version would have been better.
03. Crawl (acoustic) - I do not remember what the name of the song was for sure (this was one of those incidents that it was hard to understand Dan and Derek) but Derek Grant had come out to the stage to join Dan Adriano. Great Song! Only if I could remember the name of the song for sure!
They then set up the electric set again.
04. Song from split Alkaline Trio/Hot Water Music - this was another part where it was hard to hear what they had said. This was a good song but it didnt sound as good as the others live.
05. Maybe I'll Catch Fire - my 3rd favorite song on the "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" cd. This sounded really good live.
06. Another song that I don't remember the title - it was another great song from one of Alkaline Trio's older CDs.
07. Burn - this was one of my favorite songs to hear live. The strange effect in the intro sounded even cooler than on the "Crimson" album. The whole crowd sung every syllable to this song. This was better live than on the CD.
08. Mercy Me - I really like this song and it sounded great live. The only dissapointment was you couldnt hear Derek Grants voice like the original. And he was singing in a microphone too! Damn drums! Other than that, the rest of the song was excellent.
09. Dethbed - my second favorite song of the whole show. They brought out an extra guitarist to play the second guitar in this song. Matt Skiba's vocals worked extremely well with this song.
10. Private Eye - this was my favorite song of the whole show. This was near the end of the show and I had been waiting. The crowd went crazy and once again sung every word. This was just a perfect song for the show! Its one of the best Alkaline Trio songs too!
11. This Could Be Love - this song sounded great live and is one of my favorite songs on the "Good Mourning" album. Once again Matt Skiba's vocals worked extremly well with this song.
12. Radio - the closing song to this concert and was one of the best songs of the night. The crowd was going crazy and I took a kick to the face during this song (it sometimes sucks being in the front. Just because of them.) At the end of the song everyone, like a lot of the other punk shows, were screaming "One more song!" Sadly, Alkaline Trio didn't come back. // 10
Impression: Drenched in beer, this was one of the best concerts I have been to in a long time. Against Me! was the opener and they were a great band too. Like I said earlier, this concert was worth more than 22$. April 2nd, 2006, Marquee Theatre, Arizona, was going crazy that night! I will go to every Alkaline Trio concert when they come back. // 10
