Features: Unlike the Quad 100DFX, the Quad Stack 100DFX (or 200DFX) features 4 4x12 powerful Super 65 Celestion speakers. One cabinet alone can handle up to 260w of power. The Quad Stack 100DFX is powered by 100w head, equipped with two channels, Rhythm and Lead. The lead channel has the option of having "Balls" (a mild distortion) or by simply pressing a switch labeled "Bigger Balls" you can increase the distortion to fantastic heights. Each channel also has preamp buttons to slightly adjust the tone to your liking, for example, in the rhythm channel you can have fat which is a smooth rounded clean sound or lean which is a sparkly enhanced tone which removes lower end frequencies. // 8
Sound: I use a Epiphone Special II with 2xOpen Coil Humbuckers and the tone on distortion is just fantastic. You can make the distortion as clear as you want or as dirty by playing with it's Bigger Balls and EQ features. I play a lot of punk rock and the sound that this amp produces cannot be replicated by any pedal. With the bass and high knobs turned right up and the mid turned down it literally becomes ground shaking. Without even turning the volume more than 1/4 of the way up it's already louder than a Blink 182 concert. Also the head features 8 24-bit digital FX including, hall reverb, spring reverb, slap back, delay, chorus, chorus reverb, flange reverb and tremolo. You are able to buy a pedal to switch between channels but I don't know of one to switch the effects on or off. The rhythm channel which is the clean, offers a smooth bassy sound or by a simple turn of a knob or push of the fat/lean button you can have a crytal clear high sound. // 9
Reliability & Durability: The Celestion speakers are protected by a super sturdy cabinet. Also the speakers are set back a few inches so even if you accidentally kicked the grill it wouldn't be enough to do any damage at all. Structure wise, this amp could last years even a Decade before ever having to consider replacing it. Beside from picking up a few aesthetic scratches from moving it around places it doesn't look like much could harm, even a drop. // 8
Impression: Overall this amp is fantastic, if it were to be stolen (I wish them luck because the amp head ways a ton even without the cabinet) I would definitely go out and purchase it again. With it's sexy Vintage weaved front cover and flashy blue lights and easy to use features and knobs I recommend it to any guitar player who is thinking of something a bit bigger for his/her gigs. // 10
