SR-212RT Review

manufacturer: ampeg date: 10/05/2007 category: guitar amplifiers
SR-212RT
If you like vintage tone and vintage looks, but want a few modern enhancements just for kicks, then give the new Ampeg SR-212RT a listen. The SR-212RT is an all-tube dual channel amp with reverb and tremolo that puts out 100-Watts of pure vintage clean and overdriven tones.

Price paid: $ 1824

Purchased from: Billy Hyde

Features: 100W all valve amp (groove tubes) with 2x Celestion speakers. Has 2 channels a superb clean IMO more impressive than Fenders and also a sweet very full distortion with a great punchy fat sound. They share the one EQ and built in effects are tremolo (also sounds great) and a beautiful lush sounding reverb. A seperate EQ and maybe vairables on the Reveb could be nice but this amp is very easy to use! It is extremely lound and I can't really see me turing the volume above 3. there is no unwanted distortion and is very clean most probably due to the fact they are mainly bass amp builders the valves don't Drive till about 8. Downfall would have to be the weight at about 36Kg. // 9

Sound: I mostly play hard rock and I think it's perfect for that, rock, blues and anything really. It has a huge range of sounds yet it has it's own unique and good one! I doesnt't quite hit the real heavy metal so if you are into that you would need a pedal ect of some sort. I play strats mainly (use Lace Sensors a lot too) and the two seem to complement each other very well. As mentioned before I haven't got clean to distort and the distortion has a very full warm tone. // 10

Reliability & Durability: Reliability & Durability. Never had a problem with it. This is a very well built amp. Very solid and even has a cage for the tubes. The wires are placed under the amp section just behind the speakers so you also have the option to tilt it with out anything getting damaged. // 10

Impression: I have to say I love everything about this amp bar the weight. Ampeg have always been known to make great bass amps and it seems they certainly match them in guitar amps. I feel as if there are somewhat undiscovered but this is one of the best combos I have tried (and owned). // 10

ibanez_rules_94 :
looks like a pretty good amp valve amps are always the best as transistor amps tend to give a tinny sound but with 100 watts of output that looks pretty good but the price is too much im looking for a valve amp project as its much cheaper (and easier if you have experience with electricals)

I want an Ampeg guitar amp. they make some very professional bass amps, and lots of bass players use em. Robert Smith used a vintage ampeg, and he has a nice tone. There is a cheaper Ampeg amp, so ill try that out.

Yeah its not the cheapest, but then I wouldnt take too much notice on what "I" payed for it. I live in Australia and everything is a complete rip off!
