Live By Request Review

artist: carlos santana date: 07/14/2006 category: dvd
Live By Request
Release Date: November 15, 2005
This DVD is very accurate to what the concert would have been like to people who missed it. Although Santana plays his new stuff, he shines on the old and amazing material that launched him into stardom.

Sound: Santana has one of the greatest sounds on earth, comibining rock with blues, jazz, salsa and Mexican music. This album was made from Santana's 2005 summer tour that I actually saw in Houston, TX. This DVD is very accurate to what the concert would have been like to people who missed it. Although Santana plays his new stuff, he shines on the old and amazing material that launched him into stardom. // 10

Content: The DVD is very simple, and there aren't that many songs. "Smooth/Dame Te Amor" is good and what you would expect. He also plays "Black Magic Woman", "Oye Como Va" "(Da Le) Yaleo", "Evil Ways", "Soul Sacrifice", "Europa" and others. He never plays a song weakly. All performances are strong. However, "Soul Sacrifice" will never measure up to the electrifying version at Woodstock, 1969. But it is still good. The song list is probably the best in a Santana DVD also. // 9

Production Quality: The video quality is very good. There aren't any added effects in the DVD. I do have one complaint; the DVD feels like it was made by a fan's bootleg. The logo is very plain, and "(Da Le) Yaleo" is supposed to be spelled with two l's, because one l makes the real sound, but in the song, the pronounce it with a y sound, which in spanish makes it two l's in the middle of a word. But the music is still very good. // 8

Impression: I think that this is the best Santana DVD, and all songs are good performances. Rob Thomas, Michelle Branch and The Product G&B are in this DVD, but the real gold in this is Santana playing the classic, which he does excellently (I don't know if that's a word). If you like Santana and you want a DVD, this is your best choice. // 10
