Sound: Epica is one of the few metal bands that have female singer. That almost ineviteably means that Epica is not from the heaviest end of the metal scene. Also Epica has a guitarist/singer who does more metal-ish "singing", actually roaring would describe it better. Anyhow, if that didn't scare you off the following probably will. The Divine Conspiracy sound a lot like Nightwish's new masterpiece, it has Polish orchestra and Simone Simons is soprano, just like Nightwish's former singer Tarja. But those are the only similarities, as Epica is more guitar based and The DC would be a lot heavier if the guitars had more distortion, but no. Guitars sound rather mild overdriven emo-rock than anything related to metal. But got to say that the compositions had potential for more and in some parts guitars sound heavy as they should. Don't know where the band get their influences but just like Nightwish Epica does some emotional compositions too, so the album is not full of screaming ave satana and senseless drumming. I should also point out that there are no solos on the album. At all. Dispate all the flaws The DC sounds good, massive and heavy. // 9

Lyrics and Singing: At first I have to say that I don't look at the lyrics nor listen to them so closely when I listen to music, so I haven't put thought on this, But here is: As the name of the album could tell, lyrics are not God praising. Actually, almost every song are about how He is the great deceiver. Of course not straight forwardly but in between the lines atleast. I'd love to say that there are some songs about something else but when you read the lyrics you can find some referances to that how God is the great deceiver or something similar. Other than that is that some lyrics just are not rhyming with each other and so break up harmony in some parts but as stories they work quite well. // 8

Impression: Sure The DC brings Dark Passion Play to your mind but but but when listened without thinking that and without prejudices The Divine Conspiracy is just pure excellence. Atleast I found myself enjoying the album eventhough it is long. Each song is longer than four minutes and up to eight and thirteen minutes and so album ends up timing a full hour and more even when excluding instrumental compositions. // 9

i've heard only a few songs from this album and i already loved it man. who fives a crap about the guitar solos, they are a pure symphonic metal band, w/ a big orchetsra sound, unlike within temptations new album in which the guitars completlly over power the orchetsra (don't get me wrong it was still a good album, but WT have done better)
anyways Epica is a sick band, and this album is some of their best work
