Wolfmother Win Grammy For Best Hard Rock Performance

artist: wolfmother date: 02/12/2007 category: video news

In a ceremony held before the broadcast of the 49th Annual Grammy Awards, Wolfmother picked up an award for Best Hard Rock Performance. Their song, "Woman," beat out tunes by Buckcherry, Tool, System Of A Down, and Nine Inch Nails.

In a pre-show ceremony where stars prefer the red carpet over the pre-show awards, Wolfmother raced up go get their award.

"Thank you very much. We're blown away. This doesn't happen very often at all to in Australia any band. So, I'm going to go right to the speech because I was sitting there in the hotel and I thought about, 'Maybe we could win? What would happen?' So, I just want to thank my parents, Mike and No, and my brother Christian. They came over for this. My brother got me started on guitar when I was a kid. We just got together in Sydney, three guys and tried to write some songs. Here we are in LA. We made the record here down at the Beverly Laurel, and here we are two years later with this. It's amazing."

Backstage after getting their Grammy, the band said they're now part of Hollywood royalty.

"It's funny. Like, you do have ideas that it's sounding good and maybe the gigs will get bigger and things will happen, but like a Grammy that's the last thing that was on my mind. I thought that was something that was reserved for the permanent residents of Bel Aire. Well here we are. Maybe we should move there? With this (points to Grammy statue) just rock up to the entrance and be like, 'Dudes! Check it! Give me a house!'"

The Grammy is Wolfmother's first. The Grammy for Best Heavy Metal Performance went to Slayer, who edged out performances by Mastodon, Lamb Of God, Ministry, and Stone Sour.

I disagreee, woman is a great upbeat track that blows the sock out of the other nominees. It's refreshing and something we haven't heard in a while. Tool's song was good but soad doesn't even come close.

My god...that's why all this is a waste of time to even watch. 8 to the 13 awards for rock vs rap...this shit comes out and beats out system ... much less tool. Both who happen to be 100% better than wolfmother.

And slayer beats out lamb of god? Please. Lamb of god stole the show on that tour, and put on the best show period.

Grammys are a waste of time, and i'm not sad in the least bit that I didn't watch them.

Mastodon should have won the grammy for metal, blood mountain is Amazing! But I'm happy they lost to Slayer, which Christ Illusion kicked ass also. And wolfmother deserved this, the only band to come close to wolfmother would be Tool.

I'm so glad I won tickets to see Wolfmother in Vancouver. I've heard such great things about their live shows (even as far as hearing them being touted as the best live band). So I'm really looking forward to see them.

Their live show is great. I saw them in this little club in DC before they were very big. I was right up front, right in the middle of the front row, so anytime Andrew would do a solo he would be like a few feet away from me. It was an awesome concert. And then I saw them at Virgin Fest and they were great too, not as personal, but they can pull off big shows also.

this is a joke. NIN and Tool are a million times more experienced and actually better than wolfmother could hope to be. i mean, come on, the only reason wolfmother won is because they're mainstream.

It really doesn't mean anything to win a grammy because it is a total pop and rap award show. Talentless *******s getting awards for shit they dont even write. I was happy to see the Chili Peppers win and I do like Wolfmother. But the grammys suck.

I don't even understand why that SOAD song was nominated. Its like the Grammy voters said:

"That Wolfmother song is going to win for sure, but we only have three other nominees. We need a fourth one. Dude! People like System of a Down! Lets nominate....oh I don't know.....Lonely Day! Yeah!"

I'm an Aussie and i'm pretty sick of Wolfmother, in this country they are shoved down our throats every second. I personally don't really like them, and wished they hadn't won the grammy. I also happen to think Tool are one of the most overrated bands on the planet, and I really don't like SOAD, so I guess I wish it went to NiN.

Given Megadeth, Metallica, Machine Head and Marilyn Manson all releasing new material this year, let's hope one of them gets the grammy in 2008.

Why wouldn't they be hard rock? When I think of hard rock these days wolfmother is one of the first bands that pops in my head. They are more hard rock than tool, soad and nin if you ask me. I like the irony of people who say that wolfmother isn't hard rock and then the next minute they say they are zeppelin copycats. Led Zeppelin was hard rock! Heck zeppelin defined hard rock and they are the best hard rock band of all time. So if people say that wolmother isn't hard rock then they shouldn't have a right to compare them to zeppelin.

wabusy3 :
Also people are saying that wolfmother was overplayed and shoved down people throats, but NIN, tool and soad weren't? Come on. When certain bands get nominated for grammys then that means that they were all probably overplayed. Would you rather have them give the grammy to some shit band that no one has heard of? IDK

let me be the first to say, wolfmother is just a passing fad that we won't have to listen to for more than a few years, while tool, system, and NIN have all left their mark on the music industry, which is much more important than winning an award that has nothing to do with talent but populatiry. sure they are popular now, but wait until coyotefather debuts in 2007.

I don't believe Tool deserved it any more than wolfmother. System of a down and Nine Inch nails (lets be honest) didn't really have their best foot forward as their nomination.

Wolfmother deserve to be hard rock a lot more than Tool does. I actually think its wrong to have Tool in the hard rock category simply because they reflect so many different genres in their music. You could give a reason to stick them under about 5 different banners. Wolfmother in my opinion, can't be put legitimately under any other banner than hard rock.

It should of been tool because they had the better song and they are the best band on the planet! They should be treated with awards! And mastodon should of gotton that! The song is so original compared to slayer who is a very good band that just put out not that impressive of a song. Still awards tell nothing about how good a band is.

InFlames1990 :
I agree with most people on here that Tool should have won. SOAD's song is kind of weak and mellow compared to the rest of their Hypnotize album, which is a very good album. NIN are good, I would've taken them 2nd if Tool didn't win. Wolfmother is one of the most generic bands I think I've ever heard. When I first heard Woman, I could've sworn it was a lost Led Zeppelin song. So that's that, Vicarious should've won the award, but oh well, we don't need an awards show telling us which artists are good and which aren't. That's my opinion. To each their own musical taste. Mine happens to be Tool

Wolfomther deserved it...this is coming from hardcore fane of TOOL and S.O.A.D. But "Woman" wasnt the best song in their album. I would've have gone with "Dimension" or "Minds Eye"

actually, most of slayer's songs are in standard tuning, dipshit. but i still think Lamb of God should have taken the grammy. old bands like slayer just aren't really comparable to today's bands. two totally different catagories.

Wolfmother is hard rock IMO, but I really don't think they're that great. I was pulling for Mastodon in the metal performance category, but I do think they could have been nominated for a better song (i.e. Capillarian Crest or The Wolf is Loose).

SOAD is horrible!!! Tool should have won IMO. But it doesnt bother me that Wolfmother won. But then again it was their debut album, they should have waited to see if they can pull it off again, where tool has been proving it for years!!! SOAD is just horrible!!! Def the worst performance ive ever seen at Ozzfest!!

tool is one of the greatest bands ever, and they get denied. im sure they could give two shits about it, but still doesnt make since. how about a live hard rock performance category, ive seen both tool and soad, and i guarantee they blow wolfmother off the map hands down. no way they can create as much energy.
