Wolfmother Debut New Material

artist: wolfmother date: 04/23/2008 category: video news

Wolfmother debuted four new songs during a performance at the Gallery Of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia earlier this month (April 14). The sold out show blew the roof off and gave fans a glimpse into where the band is going following up their smash debut CD.

When discussing where the band wants to be creatively with the album, vocalist/guitarist Andrew Stockdale said hed like to make something as good as "Woman." On the flip side though, he wants to be able to be truthful and real about where he is and the range of emotions in life.

Video clip :

Watch video: Wolfmother On Songs And Personal Evolution

"I feel like a lot of rock and roll sounds like dudes doing push-ups in their bedroom. It's like, 'I've got to keep going, I've just got to keep doing it, I just have to keep banging my head against the wall,' and it's like, 'Yeah, that's cool. I get it. You're really intense and you really believe in your intensity and you want everyone else to believe in your intensity. But don't you just ever dream? Haven't you ever fallen in love? Didn't you ever go down to a park and just look at a tree, or didn't you ever get depressed, or does everything have to be so anger driven?' And if it is, like, man you're going to change. In a few years time you won't be angry. Hell, you might well even be conservative. You might be whatever. I try to look at music in terms of emotions in life."

Wolfmother have a few shows lined up for 2008, but mostly they'll be working on their forthcoming album, which insiders say could be done by Christmas.

I like Wolfmother, but I am pissed that Australia had to go and come out with a better rock band than just about any in the US right now. Come on America, lets pick it up. Hell, I'd even accept Canadian at this point.

America does have a lot of good rock bands, they just aren't as popular. Bands like danava, the sword and Black Angels are all farily new American bands that are all pretty good. I can name more, but what's the point. I'm not American though, I'm just trying to say that there is good music everywhere, you just have to look harder to find it.

If you accept British, Iīd suggest Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. They donīt suck too much...

I couldn't agree more. Wolfmother has many original songs that are very good, but do not always connect with specific emotions. "Woman" is a great song, probably their best. They have songs that are well written and they have certainly crafted their own name. However, they don't completely relate to their audience, which may cause a loss of interest, for a few minutes.

Wolfmother is great, but not better than any American bands right now, they're just popular because their CD comes out soon. Most bands have that before a CD comes out. but i think there is a lack of any new AND GOOD Canadian material right now

How about bands like black mountain or priestess? They are pretty good. Or older bands like sheavy and Rush. Plus Neil young is still putting out albums. There's lots of great Canadian bands out there, you just have to go past the overplayed crap like nickelback, simple plan and 3 days grace.

I'm not a big Wolfmother fan either but some songs from the debut did stand out for me, especially "Joker and the Theif". I actually dig the vintage sound they went for on it and, now that I've seen this article, I'm looking foward to how they'll sound on this one.

Yeah I use to think wolfmother sounded like a band from the 70's until I heard newer bands like witchcraft, dead man, danava, burning saviours, graveyard, witch and danava. Compared to those bands, witchcraft sounds pretty modern. But really who cares what it sounds like or what time it was made, if the music is good then it shouldn't matter. The bands I mentioned above are kickass and I'm not going to stop listening to them just cause they sound like they are from a different time period.

I don't think they TRY to do that, it's just what they do. It's the sound they like and we all know many-a great band came from the 70's.

I saw these guys perform in Chicago at the Riviera then at the [NOW TAKEN DOWN] Virgin Records store after. So it was like 2 concerts in 1 night and it was awesome. The show at the Virgin Record Store had maybe 35-50 people tops and they even did a signing after their performance. It was sick. Absolutely sick. One of my favorite bands. I even bought their vinyl

Haha hell yeah son! The sword and the black angels are both from my hometown baby! The black angels rule man but I've met em and their guitarist is kind of a prick but still they are an amazing band live, so is wolfmother. I also think that wolfmother has enough of a 90's garage feel on top of the classic thing to work the big time like the white stripes or silversun pickups.
