Staind Looks To 4th Consecutive Number One Album In August

Staind are ready to release their new album "Illusion Of Progress" on August 19, and the first single to hit radio is "Believe." The track has been the most added at Rock radio and tied with Beck's "Gamma Ray" for the most added track at Alternative radio.

Staind is also hoping to score their fourth consecutive Number One release on the Billboard 200, and guitarist Mike Mushok and singer/songwriter Aaron Lewis were asked if there is pressure to go Number One.

[Mushok] "You're right, there's pressure. We never expected to have one Number One record, nevermind three. I think we pretty much surpassed everything we've ever expected. So the next one is great, if not I guess it's not the end of the world."

[Mushok] "All I know is that we did the best to make the best record we could and that's all we can do. It's kind of in other people's hands to try and get it to do what it needs to."

The band was asked if there has been a change in the songwriting over the years.

"We've written the songs the same way over the years. We've always been spontaneous and off-the-cuff a lot in the studio and just kind of when the song is done is when we're done writing it pretty much."

Here's a question for those who are here to belittle Staind and they're fans, why even bother reading this if you're not a fan? Why bother posting insulting crap that has no foundation? Obviously Staind are doing something right since they're first 3 albums after being signed to a major label were number 1. I'll admit I didn't like the direction of 14 shades of grey or Chapter 5 as much as I liked Tormented or Dysfunction but they were still good albums. I can't wait for the new album. I'll do my part the day its released and go buy it to help it to number 1.

That's a bad argument. Commercial success does not translate into good musical decisions. I am not bashing Staind, I just think that to assert that, because their first three albums achieved great commercial success, they are doing something right. Staind isn't nu metal. It must be a big badge of honor for you to say that nu metal left britain "years ago". I got news for you, it left town for everyone right around the same time. And I recall some very popular bands that have angst ridden songs... actually almost every band out there has an angry song in their catalog.

i just HATE when people start bashing on Staind for no reason when haters read news on how successful they are if they "sucked" then people wouldn't buy they're records, not only that Staind has been able to pull off some heavy music(and still do) and at the same time been able to write meaningful songs that not only satisfy their stupid record labels but also they're truest fans, as for everyone who says they have no talent Aaron lewis did go on a solo tour where he would play any song thrown out to him from the audience NO PLAYLIST! just an acoustic guitar and a good ear to figure out to play what the audience requested him, Mike has also been recognized by some of the guitar magazines out there and even won an award for best new talent years ago AAANNND has had his own signature guitar from Ibanez and now with PRS guitars(did i forget to mention his first style of playing was similar to Yngwee malmsteen/80's guitar solo playing). so there you have it STAIND is and will always be on top of every other band out there(that IS why they also were able to break away from the nu metal scene back in the 90's!).

Well as a fan of their earlier stuff, do I get to bash them with your blessing? Problems with the band: they haven't written a different sounding song in quite a while, I find nothing about their recent music interesting or skillful, Mike really needs to go back to his "first style of playing" and show us that he can play more than I was capable of within my first year on guitar. Not saying that hard as s**t always sounds better than simple, but come on, throw me a friggin bone here. Switch it up Staind!!!

I kinda like Staind. Not a bad alt/hard rock band. But 3 number 1 albums in a row?? Thats just crazy to me. And I suppose they are pretty formulaic. But look where that formula has got them. I never post stuff on here so I really mean this when I say that staind are a hard working, incredible band who make exceptionally decent music. I know they're not to everyone's tastes I will agree with that, but they are my top 3 favourite bands of all time. Aaron Lewis's lyrics have helped me through very difficult times in various stages in my life, and I never get tired listening to any of their records. I live in Portlethen, Scotland and there's not a band I can think of that makes me feel more at home than they do... even if that sounds strange. People slag this band off not giving them any credit, theres no ****ing emo band out there that will outlast these guys. They have class and style and know how to put together ****ing excellent records. I don't care if anyone out there likes them or not, because I love them, and that means the world to me.

In my opinion, there 3 #1 albums comes solely from Lewis' vocals. People look for good music to listen to that they can relate to. Staind has attracted a major following solely on Lewis' songwriting. Yes, a lot of there stuff is depressing if you read into the true meaning of the songs. If they had another vocalist though, they wouldnt be the same band at all. Lewis is an extremely talented singer. I personally like to hear a band play that has a great vocalist. (ex. Maynard - Tool)
Everyone wants to bash Staind because they have so many songs that sound alike. No one ever bashes Tool because they have so many songs that showcase a bass players skills.
Lighten up people. Go buy the album, and listen to it. If you like it, listen to it again. If not, pass it on to someone that does like it. Dont bash a band that has there own style that you apparently do not care for. Why waste your time to comment. Or even read this article?
