Staind Looks To 4th Consecutive Number One Album In August |

Staind are ready to release their new album "Illusion Of Progress" on August 19, and the first single to hit radio is "Believe." The track has been the most added at Rock radio and tied with Beck's "Gamma Ray" for the most added track at Alternative radio.
Staind is also hoping to score their fourth consecutive Number One release on the Billboard 200, and guitarist Mike Mushok and singer/songwriter Aaron Lewis were asked if there is pressure to go Number One.
Staind On Possible 4th Consecutive No 1
[Mushok] "You're right, there's pressure. We never expected to have one Number One record, nevermind three. I think we pretty much surpassed everything we've ever expected. So the next one is great, if not I guess it's not the end of the world."
[Lewis] "If not, everyone is fired!" (laughs)
[Mushok] "All I know is that we did the best to make the best record we could and that's all we can do. It's kind of in other people's hands to try and get it to do what it needs to."
The band was asked if there has been a change in the songwriting over the years.
Aaron Lewis On Spontaneous Staind Songwriting
"We've written the songs the same way over the years. We've always been spontaneous and off-the-cuff a lot in the studio and just kind of when the song is done is when we're done writing it pretty much."
In advance Illusion Of Progress, Staind starts touring July 4th in Michigan and will jump on tour with 3 Doors Down July 9. Check staind.com for a complete list of tour dates.

: Here's a question for those who are here to belittle Staind and they're fans, why even bother reading this if you're not a fan? Why bother posting insulting crap that has no foundation? Obviously Staind are doing something right since they're first 3 albums after being signed to a major label were number 1. I'll admit I didn't like the direction of 14 shades of grey or Chapter 5 as much as I liked Tormented or Dysfunction but they were still good albums. I can't wait for the new album. I'll do my part the day its released and go buy it to help it to number 1.POSTED: 06/27/2008 - 12:11 pm / quote |

That's a bad argument. Commercial success does not translate into good musical decisions. I am not bashing Staind, I just think that to assert that, because their first three albums achieved great commercial success, they are doing something right. We can all think of thousands of "artists" who sell a lot of albums and suck eggs.
I really should listen to some more of their stuff. I've herad very little, but I kind of suspected that I would get what has been posted here. Maybe they're talented; maybe not. What I've heard has been terrible, but I've heard none of their "roots" stuff...

Staind isn't nu metal. It must be a big badge of honor for you to say that nu metal left britain "years ago". I got news for you, it left town for everyone right around the same time. And I recall some very popular bands that have angst ridden songs... actually almost every band out there has an angry song in their catalog.

Well as a fan of their earlier stuff, do I get to bash them with your blessing? Problems with the band: they haven't written a different sounding song in quite a while, I find nothing about their recent music interesting or skillful, Mike really needs to go back to his "first style of playing" and show us that he can play more than I was capable of within my first year on guitar. Not saying that hard as s**t always sounds better than simple, but come on, throw me a friggin bone here. Switch it up Staind!!!POSTED: 06/27/2008 - 09:00 pm / quote |

: In my opinion, there 3 #1 albums comes solely from Lewis' vocals. People look for good music to listen to that they can relate to. Staind has attracted a major following solely on Lewis' songwriting. Yes, a lot of there stuff is depressing if you read into the true meaning of the songs. If they had another vocalist though, they wouldnt be the same band at all. Lewis is an extremely talented singer. I personally like to hear a band play that has a great vocalist. (ex. Maynard - Tool)
Everyone wants to bash Staind because they have so many songs that sound alike. No one ever bashes Tool because they have so many songs that showcase a bass players skills.
Lighten up people. Go buy the album, and listen to it. If you like it, listen to it again. If not, pass it on to someone that does like it. That or you are S#!t or some band that "sux"...you are all a dime a dozen, get over yourselves...go listen to your "great" music and just stay the hell away from the rest of us who just enjoy a good tune.
BTW, can't wait for the album to come out! |
i agree with you completely. people on this site don't give actual arguments. it's just 'they suck' vs. 'no they don't.' you'd think in being such a popular site, UG would try to make some rules. but, that's democracy for you, i suppose.
though the new song sounds a bit too much like the old songs, this should prove to be a good overall record.POSTED: 06/29/2008 - 11:42 pm / quote |

: Who cares about them? They actually really suck, their songs all sound the same. A band's album really to wait for would be Bad Religion, or NoFX, or better yet, Saosin.POSTED: 06/30/2008 - 08:57 am / quote |

: a little soft now but i'm hoping they'll have some heavier songs like in the past or else i might start drifting from a band who inspired me to pick up the guitarPOSTED: 06/30/2008 - 10:04 am / quote |

: A bands album to wait for is not NoFx or bad religion, all their records are the same. Punk is all the same!!!! 3 Chords and no talent, haha POSTED: 06/30/2008 - 10:06 am / quote |

: They are a great band...and Im a fan....Music is subjective...Not everyone likes the same thing....I cant stand alot of bands, but I dont spend my time on boards belittling them or their fans...Thats just jealousy....Pick up your gear and make the music you want to hear...Dont bitch about others doing the same.POSTED: 07/01/2008 - 06:06 pm / quote |
Heir Apparent
: None of their stuff since Break the Cycle has been that good at all, too...simple than what I was used to. None of the great sounding guitar parts that I have extremely fond memories of. POSTED: 07/02/2008 - 01:38 am / quote |

: staind, nickelback, 3 doors down, creed, seether, disturbed, etc.....
all the same... id kill for something original in mainsteam music... (radiohead anyone?!) |
Oh... You're so generic. Please, sit and listen some real Seether/Saron Gas stuff and not compare it to shitty bands like Nickelback or Creed.
You don't know anything about music. Or maybe you're deaf.
Radiohead? LOL!! They're original? Please... Acting in a weird way makes a band more original?
I can't stand posers like you.POSTED: 08/18/2008 - 11:36 am / quote |
