POD Enjoying Number 9 Position

artist: pod date: 04/24/2008 category: video news

P.O.D. made its presence felt on the Billboard 200 chart as their album, When Angels & Serpents Dance debuted at Number 9. The band switched labels from Atlantic to Sony, and both returning guitarist Marcos Curiel and bassist Traa Daniels felt that the change sparked them.

The band had always had a grassroots following and the duo discussed the label change.

Video clip :

Watch video: POD Happy With New Label

"No, it was not hard at all. It was just something that needed to happen. Sometimes you just need change, man. When you're with people who don't believe in the mission anymore and don't believe in what we're trying to do it's time to change gears. Our love and passion for what we have been doing over the years has never changed. We needed new blood. We're over at Columbia and happy."

The album features guest appearances by Page Hamilton and by Suicidal Tendencies' Mike Muir, a hero, and not usually one to work with other artists. Curiel and Daniels talk about working with the hardcore heroes.

Watch video: POD On Guest Musicians

[Marcos] "I mean from what I've heard, he's [Mike Muir] actually never done that before with anybody else. So, we're honored to have him as a guest appearance. Also the song is just awesome. It's about where we come from, where we were rooted, where we were brought up. A lot of people can...It's funny a lot of hip-hop artists write about the south or the west coast, east coast. We're one of the few rock bands that can get away with, 'Hey this is where we come from.' There's not a lot of bands that can talk about. Page Hamilton kind of came about through a friend of a friend. It's an honor just to have him on the record because he's definitely a big influence, he's been a big influence to us as a band. Just to have him collaborating on a track with us is amazing."

According to Hits Daily Double, a pre-cursor chart to the Billboard 200, When Angels And Serpents Dance is slated to move from Number 6 to Number 42. Although the drop was somewhat expected, P.O.D. feels their point has already been made.

I fell asleep halfway through the CD. Its pretty generic IMO...the guitar work is nothing innovative and I cant even tell if there is bass or not. Satellite is leagues better for sure. During the satellite days I saw them at a rock fest and the live vocals made me want to leave.

yeah I don't really care for their older stuff, but this album was actually good. Every song actually has it's own character. You can't confuse any two songs on the album. I was really surprised. They have a lot of different sounds. Sonny still sounds like Sonny, but I must admit that they got rid of the "balls" that they once had. It's much more of an alternative, laid back album. But that's not always a bad thing by any means. I usually listen to bands like Meshuggah and Threat Signal, but this CD was a nice change of pace.

Good thing the band doesn't suck then.
This album is deffinatly better then the last two, some of the songs are kind of boring but it gets good once it gets to the Mike Muir song.

Sorry for double post, but yes, I've actually heard the album, my colleagues enjoy POD. I don't like it. At all. Too generic, as raidernixon said.

Ha! That's funny. Dude I haven't heard anything from POD since I was in middle school. I didn't even know that those guys were still around. I can't agree or disagree with you though. I don't even remember what they sound like.

The new album is ok. I still think their best release was Payable On Death (first album with Truby). Truby is a dirty guitarist.
