Perry Farrell Records With Jim Morrison And Flea Of Chili Peppers

artist: perry farrell date: 02/22/2007 category: video news

Perry Farrell, best known for being the lead vocalist and directional catalyst of Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros, is back at the helm once again in his new musical project, Satellite Party. Farrell and Satellite Party have been working on their debut release 'Ultra Payloaded' for a few years and it's almost time to unleash Farrell's story of the Solutionists. On the album, a star studded list of musicians lend a hand in the studio including Flea and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, former Chili Pepper and Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons, electronic dance producers Hybrid and Joy Division/New Order bassist Peter Hook. But perhaps the most intriguing track on the album is 'Woman in the Window' which is an unreleased 'lost' song by The Doors with the legendary Jim Morrison's vocals.

We caught up with Perry to discuss recording with Jim Morrison and to discuss his thoughts on the story behind the solutionists.

"I was granted permission to work with one of their songs and kind of weave it into the tapestry of the story if you will. The story is basically about this group of artists and musicians and environmentalists that, they all get together -- they call themselves the Solutionists -- and they get together to try and create their own media hub and send out their message and create solutions and post their solutions up around the city and put on these parties on their own. So Jim, his song, or The Doors song is basically their mantra: 'Just try and stop us. We're gonna love.'"

We also talked with Perry about starting the album with Flea back in 2004, in between surfing the California coast together.

"Believe it or not, the project... I began the project, writing this whole thing with Flea in my garage in 2004. We would go surfing in the mornings and he would come over with his bass and just record directly into the computer. And this song -- because he's such a great musician -- his heart, where his heart is coming from it projects, and it will project out for eternity where this song will inevitably end up. It'll just keep projecting. It's called 'You Make My Hard Life Easy.'"

Satellite Party boasts Farrell on vocals, lead guitarist Nuno Bettencourt formerly of Extreme, drummer Kevin Figuerido, newcomer Carl Restivo on bass, and Etty Lau Farrell completes the line-up as backing singer for the band. As of press time the album has a tentative release date of May 2007. Perry is also finalizing the lineup for Lollapalooza, which will once again take place in Chicago's Grant Park August 3rd through August 5th.
