Bravery Finds Fans Blinded By Sun And Moon

artist: bravery finds date: 04/15/2008 category: video news

The Bravery released their new album, The Sun And The Moon Complete, last month, and it was a risky move by the band. The band originally released the album with the songs recorded in one style, and they then recorded the songs again in a different fashion creating a second disc and the Sun And The Moon Complete.

Some fans may have felt burned by the process of buying the album and then having another version released of the same songs with different instrumentation and feel. Sam Endicott, singer and writer for The Bravery, explained the concept and its genesis.

Sam Endicott On Concept Of The Sun And The Moon

"Well, we just finished the second half of our last album. It's The Sun and The Moon, and what it was is we took these 11 songs we wanted to do and we recorded them in two completely different ways and we released it as two different albums. One is more upbeat, it's lighter, it's more acoustic, and it's more like a live band. That was more of an experiment for us, because we don't usually record that way. We did the other one in the way that we more traditionally do it, which is synthetic, electronic, in the basement with a computer, more raw, more unproduced. So one is the sun and one is the moon, and we just released the moon half so the whole thing is done."

Endicott indicated that he had a lot of fun making the Sun side and making the moon side.

Bravery Had Fun Recording Sun And Moon

"I love it man. It was a lot of fun and a really cool thing to do. We put the sun out first and the moon we recorded a lot of it while we were touring, just in the back of the bus or in a basement on a day off or whatever. It was just a really fun experience."

The Bravery are touring with Your Vegas and Fiction Plane through the end of the month. They'll play Bamboozle on May 3, and Projekt Revolution starts July 16 in Mansfield, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston.

Dragon Master :
The Bravery are alright, but they have completely shifted to a whole new world, further from independent rock and roll. Their first album was much better than the second, I feel. Besides, I think that instead of the New Wave revivalism of the first album, they have traded it for newer generation ska music with traces of their old sound. They've sold out, completely.
