Blue October Overlooked For Grammy?

Blue October's latest album, Foiled, may have summed up their Grammy Award aspirations. Despite being hailed as the band's best work and their single "Hate Me" crossing over to the CHR charts, the band didn't receive one nomination for this weekend's Grammy Awards.

Vocalist Justin Furstenfeld said that he's beyond the point in caring what others think about his music.

"I'm kind of at the point in my life where I've been doing this so long I could care less, you know. I didn't... I make music for myself and for the audience and I don't really read that kind of stuff, you know what I mean? It's hard enough to stay focused in my own life much less hear somebody else's opinion on what they think about me."

In fact, Blue October will be at Minneapolis, Minnesota's First Avenue rocking the crowd as the Grammys are taking place in Los Angeles. The band recently partnered with MTV-U and The Jed Foundation to bring awareness to the problem of mental health in college students for the Half Of Us initiative. It's based on a recent report said that at one time or another at least half of all college students were so depressed they "couldn't function."

Not that Grammys area good benchmark for talent but they really are not a very good band and therefore probably don't deserve the award.

Haha, "Hate Me" was just another Pop Punk Ballad song. Absolutely nothing special about it. They definitely deserved to be ignored.

Hundreds if not thousands of musicians are overlooked for Grammy awards every year. Blue October are pretty good, but Grammy worthy? Nah.

You can't deny that their talented, even if you don't like their music. It's not really my kind of music either, but like Furstenfeld said, he's making music for himself not so he can hear what other peoples opinions are.

They're good enough for the radio but probably not good enough to get a Grammy. You're going to have to do more to get a Grammy than write just another limp power ballad... Nickelback can tell you this (and yes, Nickelback and Blue October are placed in the same category... cheesy power ballads)

I actually do like blue october, just none of the stuff on the radio. I liked everything else on the foiled album. The singles weren't amazing IMO, but they were catchy. So I'll just leave it at that, grammmy's...no, i don't think they should be nominated because the grammy's should be for the guys that have the best songs of the year...and frankly there's a hell of a lot of songs made every year.
