Nine Inch Nails mainman Trent Reznor has posted the following message on the group's official web site:
"I am proud to announce the final personnel lineup of Nine Inch Nails for the foreseeable future. We've added, we've subtracted and we've wound up with unquestionably the strongest lineup I've EVER had. Joining me onstage will be Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Freese and Justin Meldal-Johnson.
"We've been working on something really special for these shows and so far I couldn't be happier with the results. We'll be revealing some live performances shortly here on nin.com — in the meantime, we've posted some photos from rehearsals up on Flickr here.
"Meanwhile, I assume some of you may not be entirely familiar with the acts I've chosen to join us on various legs of this tour, so we've compiled a sampler EP for you. Click here to download this for free. If you like what you hear, be sure to show up early to the show (and please remember to support them by purchasing their music, if so inclined)."
Nine Inch Nails last month made its new ten-song, 44-minute minute album entitled "The Slip" available for free download at nin.com (free signup required). The new set includes the songs "Echoplex" and "Discipline" which were both posted online during the couple of weeks prior to the new album release.
The music is available in a variety of formats, including high-quality MP3, FLAC or M4A lossless at CD quality and even higher-than-CD quality 24/96 WAVE (licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial ShareAlike license). All downloads include a PDF with artwork and credits.
For those of you interested in physical products, the band plans to make a version of this release available on CD and vinyl in July.
Nine Inch Nails mainman Trent Reznor released the instrumental "Ghosts I-IV" album online on March 2. The two-hour collection of 36 untitled instrumental tracks was made available in various high-quality DRM-free formats at different price levels. According to a press statement, a total of 781,917 copies of the project were transacted at NIN.com in the first week of release, including paid and free downloads, plus pre-orders for physical editions of the set. The total gross earned was reported as $1,619,420.
The expensive "ultra-deluxe" limited edition of "Ghosts I - IV" sold out almost instantly despite a steep $300 price tag. A digital version is available for five dollars, along with a $75 limited edition "deluxe" package.
Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

I don't quite understand what you mean. Pretty Hate Machine (1989) does sound dated, Broken is close in sound quality to many industrial metal records of that time, and the rest don't sound dated a bit.POSTED: 06/06/2008 - 12:35 pm / quote |

: a $75 limited edition "deluxe" package
This extraneous information isn't even correct; that package isn't limited at all - it is only expensive because it contains a high def surround-sound version of all 36 tracks on a blu ray disc, not because it is "limited edition."POSTED: 06/07/2008 - 12:33 am / quote |

Why would you even say that, how can new NIN stuff be a bad thing, they were both wicked albums and neither sounded rushed at all. Keep it up TrentPOSTED: 06/07/2008 - 03:04 pm / quote |

: The great thing about Trent Reznor, is that whenever he creates new material, He releases it. Gaps in time between albums is when he was working on other things, or when his life took over. Hes a musician second. Albums are released when the artist believes its quality in their eyes, and although sometimes they have terrible judgement, trent reznor has a good ear.POSTED: 06/07/2008 - 10:45 pm / quote |

: okay speaking of Ghosts I-IV, why the hell is there only a single tab (which is bass) off of it?
If I had a good ear and knew how to tab by ear I'd jump right on that shit, i.e. 4 Ghosts.
That's an amazing song but I can't figure it out and I even took it to my guitar teacher can't figure it out, but I'm dying to learn how to play it.
So if you can tab, pleeeease?

They both fit into the industrial genre, but please, have you ever listened to either? Anyone who had a decent knowledge of the material from both bands would know that they have their differences. That's pretty much like saying every rock band after Led Zeppelin just ripped them off because they wrote music in the same genre. But in all fairness, NIN did not invent industrial, Trent Reznor just made it more accessible to people.

while i still love NiN, and would have to say that they're really about the only actually good talented popular band that is still around, i agree that they(he) should take more time between CDs if that's what's necessary to produce albums like The Downward Spiral and The Fragile, as opposed to With Teeth and The Slip, etc. when did trent decide to omit delicious industrial heavyness and replace it with generic high indie guitars?POSTED: 06/09/2008 - 03:48 am / quote |

...or not. being a one man band with changing members does not make it any less of a band. Even if it were just trent, i hate it when bands refer to themselves by lead singer's name(i.e. "the dave matthews band", etc.) it sounds so arrogant. having a name helps set a clear goal and identity for a band. nine inch nails will always be the band that makes nine inch nail's kind of music, instead of just the band that helps trent reznor achieve fame and money.POSTED: 06/09/2008 - 03:56 am / quote |
