Green Day Side Project Hit The Road

artist: green day date: 05/14/2008 category: upcoming tours
Green Day Side Project Hit The Road

Foxboro Hot Tubs, the alter-ego side project of Green Day, is hitting the road for the first time, beginning next Monday (May 19) in Little Rock, Ark.

Tickets for the eight-date trek will only be available on the day of the show at the venue box office, for $20 cash. According to the band's publicist, cameras are not permitted.

Early last December, months before Green Day admitted it was synonymous with Foxboro Hot Tubs, the latter band's web site began offering an EP, "Stop Drop and Roll," for free download.

The MP3s were removed the following week, only to reappear and then vanish again. But a physical release is expected May 20; a single from the album, "Mother Mary," peaked at No. 16 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart.

This isn't the first time Green Day's members have been accused of moonlighting. In 2003, they were alleged to have recorded a new wave album under the name the Network, which frontman Billie Joe Armstrong released on his Adeline Records imprint.

Here are Foxboro Hot Tubs' tour dates:

05/19 - Little Rock, Arkansas - Juanita's Cantina
05/20 - New Orleans, Louisiana - One Eyed Jack's
05/21 - Dallas, Texas - The Loft
05/22 - Austin, Texas - Emo's
05/25 - Phoenix, Ariazona - Brick House
05/26 - San Diego, California - Soma
05/27 - Los Angeles, California - Roxy
05/28 - Long Beach, California - Alex's Bar

Thanks for the info to Billboard.com.

they can't do green day covers...they are green day. in order for someone to cover themselves they have to be performing with a band that consists of people that were not all in the original band. like +44 and Angels can cover Blink.
That doesn't mean however that they will not be playing green day stuff, they may very well do that.

So they've got one album worth of songs, that are fairly poor even by green day's standards, and they're touring? That'll definitely be worth it :\

They shouldn't have bothered with the spin off thing if it affects their main project, they evidently can't do it as well as jack white or trent reznor.

Yeah Green Day has historically turned down corporate gigs and advertising deals. They're one of the few bands that haven't sold out. And doing cool stuff like this for cheap is cool and its stops ticketmaster from getting their like 35% convenience charge, those bastards!

are you kidding? green day is one of the most seeling out bands ive ever seen. they might have been alright in the 90's, but ever since american idiot all they've done is sell out, when they did the saints are coming, with U2, that was for the money(and sucked), just like working class hero, and the simpsons movie thing was the most selling out ive seen in a long time

ok, so everyone is talking about greenday selling out, what is this whole sell out buisiness anyway, the deffinition of sell out follows..

For instance, Green Day. They are considered sell-outs because they are a punk band who was popular on MTV. Green Day never stated that they would never be on MTV, thus they are not sell-outs in that sense. They never changed their musical style for monetary reasons, thus they are are not sell-outs in the more literal sense of the word....

so all of you people using the term sell-out, and GreenDay in the same sentence just to fit in with all of the other people that say the same thing to be cool, go re-examine your appreciation for a really good punk band!

Well I'm glad billie joe is coming out with another album even if its under a different band name, but all these musicians did tour with green day on the american idiot album and all that. but they should just keep the green day name and keep making albums if they wish to do so cause foxboro hot tubs doesn't sound very good for a band name as green day does. not to mention everyone hears green day and they sell out shows like nothing. if someone told me hot tubs came to town i'd probably miss it cause its not green day. i'd think its some local band. then to find out it was billie joe there i'd feel bad cause i didnt know they were the same person. so they should stay with green day as the band name cause hot tubs sounds like a song or album title. not a band name.

Okay fair enough i would agree with what everyone was saying if it was a different band playing green days.

But it's not its a different band, playing different songs, different genre of music, how is it even selling out? It's just all the haters finding something new to poke fun at.

green day isnt a concept band...so whenever they want to try a theme like new wave or 60s rock n roll, they make an album under a different name. whats wrong with that?

They sell out because theyre popular...just like metallica sell out!

How naive do your get, I'm suprised especially coming from someone like a rage fan. Green Day sell Outs come off it, what are you gonna say next? "Bob Geldof has been a bad influence onthe world" or something like "slipkont are the greatest girlband ever" samething come off it!!!

Just let them do what theyve been doing because its obviously working...its not really fair when they get bashed for just trying something new and im pumped for the Foxboro Hot Tubs cd i think itll be great
