Fall Out Boy Pays Tribute To Hall & Oates

artist: fall out boy date: 05/22/2008 category: upcoming tours

Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump paid tribute to Hall & Oates by singing a cover of their hit song 'Rich Girl' at a Los Angeles event last night May 20.

The veteran duo were named BMI Icons at the 56th Annual Pop Awards, joining the ranks of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Paul Simon, James Brown and Brian Wilson, who previously earned the honour.

Stump delivered a pumped-up rendition of the Philadelphia duo's 1977 hit 'Rich Girl' backed by Hall & Oates' five-piece band.

Babyface also praised the duo, and sang a stripped-down cover of 'Sara Smile', which he said blew him away the first time he heard it.

"I thought, 'What white guys are doing music like this?'" he quipped, adding that he thought blue-eyed soul was sung by black guys with blue eyes.

Hall & Oates later took the stage to perform three of their songs including 'Maneater', 'Out Of Touch', and 'She's Gone'.

"I'm not a blue-eyed soul singer, I'm a soul singer," Hall clarified. "It's not about race."

Oates, meanwhile, thanked BMI for the honour. "I can't think of a greater honour than to be among songwriters," he said.

Also recognised at last night's ceremony was Palow Da Don, who took home Songwriter of the Year for penning four hits including Fergie’s 'London Bridge' and 'Runaway Love', recorded by Ludacris and featuring Mary J. Blige.

Oklahoma rockers Hinder earned the 'Song Of The Year' award for 'Lips Of An Angel', which has sold more than 3 million ring tones, reportedly the most downloaded rock song ring-tone in history.

BMI is an American performing rights organisation that collects licensing fees on behalf of more than 375,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers.

i like the old fall out boy music, so i am not a hater, but for crap ****ing bycicle shopkeeper, it´s like they arent a band anymore, they only keep ****ing around in antartica or playing 1 cover of a song. A lot of bands do covers of bands they like, its not interesting news.

I have to agree, they do seem to be doing a lot to get a lot of the limelight, but I guess it was just meant to happen.

bands do covers all the time, it doesnt need to be documented everytime FOB does one...

Man guys, get off their nuts. They just got done touring for like 2 straight years and they're on some down-time right now. And read the article, it's not Fall Out Boy, it's Patrick Stump, and if Patrick is gonna pay tribute to a band that he likes, get off his nuts. It's not like he expected the press to get all on his jockage. And if the news says Fall Out Boy, and you hate them so much, why in the f**k did you decided to read it. It's not cool to just sit there and slam a band because they play music and got big and you don't like them, no one really gives a s**t what you think. And you can't tell me that if you had a shot to play a show in Antarctica and set a record that no one else had done, you would be like "Aww, no thanks. I think I'd rather go play music in my basement." I mean really, that s**t wouldn't happen, it'd be incredible to play a show in Antarctica, that's something no one has done! I know I'd go for it, especially since they've played the other six continents in the last year, it would be awesome. That's all I'm saying, just think of it from their shoes.

While I agree with what you're saying, your fascination with nuts and 'jockage' is somewhat disturbing.
