Dashboard Confessional principal Christopher Carraba has begun laying out dates for his group's fall tour, which supports the band's recently released album, "Dusk and Summer."
Holding down the tour's opening slot will be New York-based punk/pop act Brand New.
Released in June, "Dusk And Summer" sold about 134,000 copies during its first week in stores, enough to earn the album a No. 2 debut on The Billboard 200 chart. Helping to spur sales is the single, "Don't Wait," which is streaming at Dashboard Confessional's MySpace page. The song recently got some added exposure when it turned up in the season premiere of the MTV series "Laguna Beach."
Dashboard Confessional wrote and recorded "Dusk And Summer" over a two-year period, with producer Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam, Linkin Park) at the helm. Gilmore had previously worked with the group on the song "Vindicated," which appeared on the "Spider-Man 2" soundtrack.
The band also enlisted famed U2 collaborator Daniel Lanois to help with production.
Carrabba, who got his start fronting rock bands Further Seems Forever and Vacant Andies, originally launched Dashboard Confessional as a solo act, but has since expanded the project to include a full band.
"When I started recording for this last album, I decided I needed to explore that full sonic realm again," he says. "And it's not just because I'm using a full band. I write all the songs, rhythms and instrumentation. It's just my taste as a writer now."
