Taproot Work On New Album

ChartAttack.com reports that Ann Arbor, Michigan hard rock band Taproot have started work on the follow-up to its 2005 album, "Blue-Sky Research".

According to the band's MySpace page, they'll work with producer Tim Patalan on the as-yet untitled album. It's unknown yet if it will be released independently or through a major label.

"We expect to be finished recording within the next 6-8 weeks, and have the album out by January 2008," bassist Phil Lipscomb wrote earlier this month. "Haha, just kidding…should be out by early summertime."

Taproot had approximately 20 song ideas kicking around in late November and had been placing a weekly clip entitled "TaprooTube Tuesday" on their site for fans. But Lipscomb says that not everything that's been shown will end up on the record. While most of the songs are untitled, one video shows the band performing a tune with the working title "Kevin Spacey".

"We've chosen most of the songs, but there is always room for change and we might write more stuff as we go on," Lipscomb says. "Expect some cool stuff on this record."

The new album will be the band's first since parting with Atlantic Records last June. They're also reportedly working on a DVD, but there's no word as to when that will see the light of day.

Taproot, which formed in 1997, are perhaps best known for its 2002 album, "Welcome". It included the hit singles "Poem" and "Welcome".

Derickonfire :
Alright!

These guys put on a good show, and though I've kind of drifted into different music types since 2002, I still await a new album!

Hopefully it's better than Blue Sky Research. I'm not a heavy fanatic, meaning sayin that the album sucked becuase it wasn't heavy enough - but you could really REALLY tell Billy Corgan helped write a deal of it. I'm lookin forward to getting back to all Taproot written music.

I agree - BSR was not Taproot. It wasnt horrible but it was like a different band. I hope they get back to the Gift/Welcome days.

If was anything like Blue Sky Research, I'm going to enjoy it.

IMO, they should let their nu-metal roots go.

Used to love them a ton. Just sort of drifted away from them though. I was really impressed with the direction of BSR however and finally caught them live last year. I did not have high hopes at all, but was absolutely blown away. So, here's hoping the next effort is a solid one as well!

I liked BSR, but I've only heard a couple songs from other albums. They're good too though. So I'll likely buy this album, just cause it doesn't say the typical "the band is taking this album in a new direction." Cause dude, that's not always good.

I did not like BSR, guess I'm more of a fan of Gift than Welcome. I just hope with this new one, they lay off multi-layered vocal harmonies and stick to the tech-grooves they come up with. 'Poem' was a diamond in the rough, but maybe they can recapture that kind of magic in the future.....
