Staind Sees 'Progress' On New LP

artist: staind date: 06/20/2008 category: upcoming releases

Staind has set an Aug. 19 release date for its next Atlantic album, "The Illusion of Progress." First single "Believe" will hit U.S. radio outlets on June 24, according to Billboard.com report.

"It's a departure from the last record," Staind frontman Aaron Lewis tells Billboard. "There's a lot more effect-y experimentation and a lot more textures with vintage instruments and vintage amps."

The band recorded at the studio that Lewis keeps in his barn with producer Johnny K. And while Staind previously swore to rock even harder this time out, Lewis says it's aware of pressure for another ballad-style track along the lines of such hits as "Outside" and "It's Been Awhile."

"That's what the record label wants," he says. "You're foolish not to [be aware] of that."

"Illusion" is the follow-up to 2005's "Chapter V," which has sold 986,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Staind will be on tour this summer, beginning July 4 in Muskegon, Mich.

Man. If the whole album sounds like It's Been A While, they're gonna lose a fan. It was a good song, but a whole album of it? That's what Coldplay is for.

I miss the intensity of Dysfunction. I'm not sayin it's gotta be super heavy like Dysfunction was, but the intensity's kinda gone since after Break The Cycle. I'll cross my fingers but I won't hold my breath.

It doesn't quite work like that. Nothing is clear cut, if the label says your record isn't coming out...or we aren't going to push your album promo wise, then it's easier to record one ballad.

Yea deffo'; Deftones, Tool (maybe) Mastodon, Scars on Broadway, Sepultura, The Strokes (maybe), Weezer, Slipknot, The Offspring, Muse, Metallica, Beck, Alice in Chains. There's loads!

I haven't been liking their generic sound as of recent. Hopefully this album does something ballsy. I think that A solo or some up-tempo stuff would make a nice contrast to another good ballad if they write one.

chapter 5 was pretty good in my opinion. not so much on 14 shades of grey. i liked the dysfuntion and tormented stuff the most but hopefully the new album will be more like those

they had a song on "Break the Cycle" called "Can't Believe."

I think this is hilarious ironic, but I guess they changed their minds and are just going to sell out.

Im anxious to hear the new record. I thought Dysfunction and Break the Cycle were great, 14 was good and Chapter V was great. I've seen them twice live and Im hoping to see them a third time

uncere4ever :
They have a few similar named songs Gooze. But what the Sh** does that have anything to do with selling out. The write softer songs because they want to. Just as much as they want to write heavier songs. If you dont at least "try" to do what the label wants then you are no good ot them. Staind is amazing and always will be..They are NOT sellouts.

I disagree. I think the record company is acting in the best interest of the band. I mean you've seen the kind of popularity he gets for those ballads, songs like "It's Been Awhile", "Outside", and "Epiphany". He writes them SO WELL...I think it'd be good to have a couple of ballad tracks written with some hard stuff, kind of like the Break The Cycle album.

But whatever they do, I've been a fan of all their albums, so I can't wait to hear what they have next.

That's nice. You're also forgetting Falling, and Falling Down. Point?

outlawtorn003 :
You have to look at the fact maybe with Tormented and Dysfunction that they were barely known until some of the content off of Dysfunction started getting radio play. Lyrically if you look at his lyrics they're a lot darker and trouble ridden on those 2 albums and it carries over to Break the Cycle some. How can you really write angry songs like they did in the past about life sucking when life is going quite well for them? Look at Zoe Jane for example off of 14 Shades of Gray. I had a hard time at first with the album but I gave it a chance and thought it was pretty solid. Times change, lives change, and music evolves.

Sweet can't wait, if this album is like a heavier version of Chapter V I'll be satisfied, even though that means it won't come near being as good as Dysfunction and Break the Cycle

Hard to believe...

They aren't a bad band, put out decent singles but a lot of their stuff sounds the same. And thats my opinion so don't trip balls.
