Panic At The Disco Already Working On Next Album

Panic At The Disco's sophomore album, "Pretty. Odd.," hasn't even been out a month, but guitarist and chief songwriter Ryan Ross is already giving details about the group's next effort.

"We've written a bunch of songs since recording "Pretty. Odd."," Ross tells Billboard.com, adding that "we've probably got about nine or 10 new songs going right now, so I hope that after our tour and all that, we can do another record."

Ross says the new material "is picking up where we left off. Because ["Pretty. Odd."] was a lot different for a lot of reasons, I think we're kind of finding something we're drawn to, and the stuff so far definitely sounds harder to place to me. I'm not really exactly sure what it sounds like -- I guess sometimes that's a good thing."

According to Ross, Panic plans to spend "the next year" on the road supporting the current album. The Las Vegas quartet is in the midst of headlining the Honda Civic Tour in North America and will also play the Bamboozle Festival on May 4 in East Rutherford, N.J. European dates are on tap for the summer, as well as an Australian run in August and an Asian tour after that.

The guitarist says that Panic is still stoked -- and surprised -- about the early showing of "Pretty. Odd.," which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 after its March 25 release. "We didn't really know what to expect from this," Ross notes. "There was this joke, 'cause we were No. 2 here and some other countries, and we weren't No. 1 anywhere the first week. So it was like, 'Always the bridesmaid, never the bride...'

"But we didn't expect to even be that high, anyway. That stuff is far beyond anything we thought we'd have as far as success, so we just kind of have fun with it."

Panic recently shot a video for "The Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)," the second single from "Pretty. Odd." and follow-up to "Nine in the Afternoon." The new single will be commercially released on May 2.

Thanks for the info to Billboard.com.

Henkdemachtige :
because close minded ppl cannot understand why other people like other music. Weird huh? that not everyone likes the same ****ing stuff. People really have no life if they search for PATD news and go flame it.

OT: itīs good to hear they want to make a follow up soon!

I havn't heard the new album. The first one was alrite, not really my thing, but still had some catchy tunes on it. Good for them for trying to get a follow up out quickly. There is too many bands in the mainstream that wait 3/4 years for their second/third album (PATD is one of them by the way), and i just think this is a really bad move. I say release more and more so people don't forget about you in a hurry.
I know it takes time to record and all that, but bands and record labels are really stabbing themselfs in the foot by waiting and waiting. All i have to say is THE ZEP! Album-tour, album-tour, album-tour; this went on for years.
So, yeah, more good music plzthnks!

No, people have compared them to beatles. Thats like when people compared muse to radiohead when they started.

That's just a little extreme onthewaytohell. Radiohead are awesome, but muse are also extremely talented and skilled. In contrast, PATD have very, very little skill in comparison to the Beatles.

IMHO, they need to take a long hard think about this whole mass album over short period idea. Rather they took a break and improved their sound and skills than churn out albums of the same quality as Pretty. Odd.

SWEET! I can't believe they're thinking that far ahead already. Kinda hard to believe the next one will be better than Pretty.Odd. Hopefully it'll be really different. Can't wait for the video!

I must agree with you, PATD has interesting Ideas and I would give them more credit than FOB for attempting to be creative and interesting though that doesn't mean that popping out albums will produce quality.

not a fan of these guys, but i do have to give them props for their creativity. their sound is unlike anything i've ever heard but still, not really my thing.

also, whoa. defs think they should take some time and let people appreciate the work of the 2nd album before they go and listen to something else and forget about the stuff they just listened to.

It's awesome to see a band like this succeeding and doing so well despite being thrown into the publics eye so fast. That's the only reason I can dislike Pete Wentz, he's very headstrong and will take a chance sooner than exploring an opportunity.

I really enjoyed the new album and I'm glad to see they could create such a fantastic album on both the electronic as well as rhythmic/afternoon fronts. It's hard to do and I've really only seen... well, Conor Oberst has done it, but that's really all I see. What other band can play music as well as they produce it using nothing but a computer monitor? Maybe Nine Inch Nails also on second thought.

i wonder when it will be done!! im excited. i hope that it is different, if bands come out with a somewhat different style for each of their albums then it makes it different, and interesting. many bands that stay the same don't do as well in my opinion
