GN'R To Release Song On 'Rock Band'

A decade and a half after releasing its previous album, Guns N’ Roses plans to put out a new song in September — on the video game Rock Band 2. MTV expects to announce on Monday that the sequel to its popular Rock Band game will include "Shackler’s Revenge," a track from the Guns N’ Roses album that has been in the works for more than a decade, said people familiar with the deal who spoke on condition of anonymity because the arrangement has yet to be announced.

The inclusion of the song on a game suggests that the Guns N’ Roses album "Chinese Democracy" will come out this fall, after years of delays. Axl Rose, who has selected replacements for the other original members, has said that the album is finished, but a release date has not been announced.

Mtv and Universal Music Group, Guns N’ Roses’ label, declined to comment on the deal.

Guns N’ Roses’ plan to reintroduce its music to the public in a video game underscores how important to the music business games have become — especially Rock Band and Activision’s Guitar Hero series, which allow gamers to play along with songs on instrument-shaped plastic controllers. Rock Band 2 will also include songs from marquee acts like AC/DC and Rush; the game may also feature music by Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan, according to a track listing leaked online. Activision recently released a version of Guitar Hero dedicated to Aerosmith, and a game based on Metallica is due next year.

In response to all the people dissing Rock Band and Guitar Hero, calm down. Seriously I mean why does it bother you so much if a band puts one of their songs in a video game? People who like the band will enjoy playing it and it will give them more of a reason to buy the game and the band will get money and publicity.

I know music games can be a pain in the ass. For me it's that fact that if you like a song that's in the game a lot people call you a poser for liking the song even if you knew about it BEFORE the game came out.

why does everyone think that the recording process is what is taking this album so long to come out. they have tons of legal issues with the band changing all the time. i've had most of this album for a long time now since it leaked awhile ago.

Ok lets get this straight. NO ONE makes slash look like a novic guitar player. Jake Kiley from strung out is very good but the only people who are better than slash are as old as him (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai)

I'm a working musician and guitar instructor and as I've asid before on these forums that these games get kids interested in music and playing real guitar. What I DO have a problem with are people calling these kids posers because they became interested in these bands through the games. So, since those of you who are so cool that aren't posers seem to be experts on everything I'd like to ask you the following; Where exactly would it be okay for them to be introduced to these bands? You're a poser if you discovered GnR through GH or RB but you aren't if you heard them on the radio? If you're grandpa bought you Appetite For Destruction? If you were even alive when GnR were a rea; touring band and saw their show before they were Axl Rose's caberet act?

You people need to grow up, honestly. "Poser" is such a little kid thing to say. Be grateful it's not Hip-Hop Hero and kids all over the country were scratching on plastic turntables instead of discovering all of these cool, old and new rock bands. Would these kids be posers if YOUR band was featured on the game and became fans of YOUR music and started buying YOUR albums and going to YOUR shows and putting food in YOUR mouths and money in YOUR pocket? I think you would be the poser then, wouldn't you? After spending so much time ragging off on internet forums about how lame these games are while stuffing your pockets from the success you would achieve through the exposure you would gain from being featured in the game. For those of you too close-minded to have played, or are misinformed about the game, many lesser known bands have gained exposure through these games from the bonus tracks that are in the games. But I guess these bands are all sell-outs too aren't they? God, grow up.

If yall are wondering Guitar hero world tour or rock band 2, go look up the tracklist on wikipedia for 2. Easily best list of songs ever put in a game, including the dlc that can be used, It would be extremely hard for GH to top it, so they wont seeing neversoft is making the game.

But back to this topic, if the songs good I wont mind playing it. Id prefer november rain or paradise city though.

some of the people that play these games will be exposed to some of this music for the first time ever... and i'm glad that its rock/metal rather than hiphop/rap. but also at the same time you'll have a metal elitist (or rock elitist) call the kid a "poser" because he has only had a slight taste of metal (or rock, whatever) and hasn't really been exposed to the other bands of that genre that are out there.

I personally do not have a problem with the concepts of the games. I simply do not see why someone would spend soooo much time (the fanboys) trying to fabricate musical ability when just as much time on a real guitar will bring an actual skill that reflects on the individual. There is little credit due for someone who has good time reflexes in their fingers.

I praise the game for sparking an interest for older music in younger kids. It is not a sin for guitar players to play it, but it seems like a waste to persist.

Im kind of an purist when it comes to making music. If your gonna play some guitar, then you gotta play guitar on an guitar whether or not its acoustic or electric. Using an plastic piece of .... to 'pretend' that your playing guitar is just retarded.

Sure, the learning curve of playing Plastic Hero or Plastic Band is way lower than the learning curve of playing real guitar, but you can buy yourself an cheap guitar WITH an amp for about 200 dollars(150 euro's here, dont know too much bout the diffrence in euro-dollar) which might be a little more expensive but when you can play properly you will get more fun out of it. So really, Plastic Hero and Plastic Band might be enjoyable, but atleast 70 percent of the people that play it think they can beat Jimi Hendrix after beating Ride the Lightning on easy(yes, i know that Ride the Lightning is an song by Metallica, not Jimi Hendrix), and thats just sad.....and retarded.

Axl is being smart with this one. He can make more money of Rock Band 2 than off an regular single or album. I think hes trying to play it safe cuz either hes out of money or doesnt feel like touring to make some money.
