Coldplay: 'We Weren't Afraid To Try Anything On New Album'

Coldplay have revealed that they “weren’t afraid to try anything” on their new album ‘Viva La Vida’.

Released on June 16th, the band’s fourth album – which translated means Long Live Life – has been produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs.

Frontman Chris Martin said that the group are still “obsessed with making songs that can be sung to the rafters”, although he added that they were “presented differently” on the new record.

The band have also revealed that five songs - ‘Postcards From Far Away’, ‘Lukas’, ‘Rainy Day’, ‘The Goldrush’ and ‘Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground’ – have all failed to make the record.

As yet, it’s not clear whether any of the songs will be released as b-sides.

The full tracklisting for the album is:

01. Life in Technicolor
02. Cemeteries of London
03. Lost!
04. 42
05. Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love
06. Yes
07. Viva La Vida
08. Violet Hill
09. Strawberry Swing
10. Death and All His Friends

webbtje :
The odds that despite that claim, the album is full of bland, unoriginal, radio-friendly pop-rock?

High.

Yeah! You tell 'em! There's only room for the brutal METAL in this world and nothing else!

Apparently some people have no sense of sarcasm. Tis a shame.

This better be their best album yet, because they're really confident in the fact that it is only 49 minutes long (see previous articles about the album).

He never implied that. And to be fair, he's got a point.

I was just making my own, equally baseless claim to go along with his. My opinion is every bit as valid as his, because there are no 'facts' here, just subjective viewpoints.

Don't you love relativism?

You don't say? If bands don't experiment or change and progress in some way, there's no point in making multiple records. I hope this album is more spacey. Maybe more electronic. Maybe they'll pull a Radiohead and make a "Kid A" record...

Come on UG, would you please check your facts?

The album is named "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends".

I'm mildly anticipating this album.
I hate liking these guys because everyone else hates me for it.
Apparently guys who do like metal aren't aloud to like Cold Play or Radiohead or anything like that. Fucking closed minded imbeciles.
Hope it's good.

Sad, isn't it?

The most creative bands I know don't limit themselves to one genre. All of the awesome stuff out there currently blends genres in some unique way. There's too much good music out there to stick to one genre. It is hard breaking out of what you're used to, though.

I listen to Radiohead and Elbow with as much pleasure as I listen to Cannibal Corpse and Strapping Young Lad. Please don't go and make close-minded assumptions about my taste in music. I'm partial to some soft rock, and Coldplay are the least adventurous and creative of them all, with the possible exception of Embrace.

Sounds like it'll be a happy album as I heard it has a Mexican influence (they apparently took a trip there). If you've heard the Cuban remix of "Clocks" you'll know what I mean.

Coldplay forever. Peace.
