Alice in Chains recently played an acoustic set in Milwaukee, WI, while the band had an off-date from its current tour with Velvet Revolver. According to Tunelab, the Milwaukee show was recorded and will be released as a live album at some point in the future.
AIC has two more of these acoustic shows coming up.
Here are some videos of AIC with new singer William DuVall. If you're willing to accept the fact that Layne Staley is gone, this guy is pretty good.
As previously mentioned, Alice in Chains is currently on tour with Velvet Revolver. The band is getting rave reviews as the opening act, even outshining VR at many shows. My friend Krissy went to see this tour at Atlantic City. Here is her report:
The concert was great. Alice in Chains was honestly better than VR, but I think it's cause everyone around us hyped them up and they were just so-so.
A setlist from the Milwaukee acoustic show:
01. Don't Follow
02. Heaven Beside You
03. Brother
04. I Can't Remember
05. Nutshell
06. Killer Is Me
07. ove Hate Love
08. Sludge Factory
09. Angry Chair
10. No Excuses
11. Down In A Hole
12. Got Me Wrong
13. Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy (Elton John cover)
14. Squeeze Box (The Who cover)
15. Rooster

: Most tracks are also on MTV's unplugged, it just seems so pointless. And to who wrote the article here are some tips:
- Never state your own opinion in a news article.
- Don't forget the quotation marks.

: This is good. I've always loved AIC. It's about time they make a comeback. I miss Layne but that life was his own choice. The guys deserve, as well as us fans, to hear these songs live and hear new music. We all deserve it and I wish Layne could've realized he deserved it too.POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 12:00 pm / quote |
Mud Martian
: It's a shame Layne is gone, but as I've said before, Alice in Chains is better off without him.
I don't understand this acoustic live album, though. There's only maybe three songs that weren't on the Unplugged, and the Unplugged features Layne Staley. While I like this new singer, having seen Alice twice last month and being blown away by it, I still don't think he's capable of delivering the emotions Layne did in Alice's music. I would love to hear new stuff with his voice, but for the old stuff, when I hear the words, I think of Layne, I don't necessarily care about his voice. If I want to hear Unplugged Alice songs I'll listen to their MTV Unplugged performance...
Although I am curious what Love, Hate, Love and I Can't Remember sound like Unplugged. POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 12:25 pm / quote |

: I imagine that magager said something like: Jerry, music industry has changed over the years. It's not 90's anymore. But I know what to do to sell more records. Let's make anti-american pic for the cover of cd, like that Green Day stuff. Ohh and we should let some fans to play in our clip, like RHCP.
Jerry - nah, that's too pathetic.POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 12:31 pm / quote |

: dude i was at this show, it was ****in awesome, i can't believe i was at a show that's actually gonna be released!!....but if you like alice you will love it! they played a ton of good songs that they don't usually play, including a few covers at the end such as an elton john song and "squeez box" by the who which i thought was really cool. and enough about people having doubts about the new singer, i've seen him twice in the acoustic and the electric sets, and he kicks ass.POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 01:55 pm / quote |

: i dont really like the new singer, he tries way to hard to sound like Layne and doesnt use his own voice. I think its stupid their releasing another acoustic albulm, because the MTV Unplugged was AMAZING, hearing this wil jus make him sound even worse than Layne. but ill still prolly buy the cd anyways

: WOW enough with the layne comparisson sh*t. du vall is badass and puts on a good show. in case you didn't know, they are working on new material, but probably want to put out something else first (such as a live album) so that people will be more apt to buy an album of new material when they decide to release one. it's just smart business. the show was amazing so just wait, you'll like it.POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 02:36 pm / quote |

: I would have liked to have seen some different songs done acoustically. I know people think that certain songs like Dam that River and Them Bones should be played plugged in, but part of the excitement of an acoustic show is to see how they can take these great songs and make them great acoustically also. I personally think acoustic shows can sometimes showcase more talent musically than plugged in shows. If Chris Cornell can take Black Hole Sun, a great song, and make it acoustic and sound great, then I think AIC could do that too. POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 04:01 pm / quote |

: Man I just can't even listen to new AIC. It's not AIC, even though jerry has always been the heart of the band without Layne AIC doesn;t work. They sound like a AIC cover band now. The new guy's voice is mediocre and he looks like a fruit cake. It would seem like they'd have their pick of a lot of talented singers. I can't see why they'd ever pick that guy.POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 07:22 pm / quote |

: wow stop hatin! every time ac/dc went on tour or did an album with johnson i don't think everyone and their brother was saying "RIP Bon" and "i just can't listen to ac/dc anymore." brian johnson has his own style but is remminiscent of bon scott. and same for layne and william. if nothing else, compare how alice sounds now to all of the bands out there now that probably in some way have been influenced by alice or some 90's rock in general, such as breaking benjamin or three days grace or lots of other popular bands. imo they still sound way more badass and i'd go to an alice show over the majority of any new rock band's show any day. and when alice finally releases some new sh*t, and if it's as good as the insiders say it is, there won't be any question that they still belong in the rock and roll scene and aren't just a thing of the past.POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 08:13 pm / quote |

: I saw DuVall open for Cantrell with his band Comes With the Fall. And they were cool as hell. This was about 6 weeks after Layne past away. These guys were playing as his band as well. And they played I'd say about 3 Cantrell tracks and the rest were Chains. DuVall did an amazing job, and honestly they couldn't have found anybody better besides the man himself. I was very impressed. Now years later he's permanently taken Layne's place, I'm not mad at all. It was only natural. Nobody else could have done it. When the time came I'll bet DuVall was the first choice. I've yet to see the newly formed AIC, which blows because they cancelled the show here in SLC. And doesn't look like they plan on coming back either. But that seems to be a regular thing nowadays. I hate UTAH...POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 10:57 pm / quote |

: I saw them in Mount Clemens last year, and they were great. Great acoustic set. Just saw them in Pine Knob (outside Detroit), and they were fantastic. They BLEW AWAY Velvet Revolver. Slash played like ass, but Jerry was in the zone. He had a great extended solo to 'Nutshell', and they sounded HUGE. Their sound was aggressive and powerful. It was one of the best experiences of my life. See them.POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 11:25 pm / quote |

: Rosswigley89, I was at that same show at Pine Knob last week.
Alice in Chains did an excellent job. The singer was surprisingly good. He seemed to be the talk of the show afterwards. And yes, Alice in Chains did steal the show. The crowd reacted amazingly well to Alice by the end of the set. Velvet Revolver only got the pops on the STP and GNR songs.
I'm interested to hear this AiC acoustic stuff. I'd love to see them make a huge comeback. All it will take is one superb album. I'm hoping they move forward as a band as opposed to being grounded in the past. I've read reports that the new stuff that they have come up with has been amazing. Lets hope those reports turn out true.POSTED: 09/06/2007 - 12:26 am / quote |

Not really, because Johnson's debut was Back In Black, one classic piece of rock. Just another good reason for AIC to start recording new stuff, because their live shows have been pretty kick-arse lately. What I REALLY don't understand are these reactions:

I'm glad you still like 'em, but lots of people are still bitching about them not sounding the same anymore... Duh! Of course it's not the same without Layne, but they're still Alice! I mean, how can anyone who liked this band be pissed off over the fact that they're making music again? Oh and by the way, the idea of an unplugged album sucks!!! It has already been done with Layne.
