AC/DC To Sell New Album At Wal-Mart |
| artist: ac dc |
date: 06/10/2008 |
category: upcoming releases |
|
|
|
AC/DC's next studio album will be exclusively sold at Wal-Mart stores in the United States, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The Brendan O'Brian-produced, as-yet-untitled Columbia album, is expected in the fall.
With this move, AC/DC becomes the latest veteran act to pact exclusively with the retail behemoth, following Garth Brooks, The Eagles and Journey. The Eagles's two-disc Long Road Out of Eden, released last fall, has been an enormous success, having sold more than 2.98 million copies in the United States.
The AC/DC deal comes at a time when Wal-Mart - the largest seller of compact discs in the US - is signaling it may rock the music world by stocking fewer CDs. Such a move is part of a trend that would further accelerate the already steep decline of CD sales as consumers make the transition to digital music.
AC/DC have not released a new studio album since 2000's "Stiff Upper Lip".

Ehm, no it doesn't... The "Wal-Mart thing" you mentioned is just a clever move on their behalf, because AC/DC albums sell, and if there's less places to sell them, all the better for Wal-Mart. Now for Wal-mart, where every store is the same, it makes money without being creative or new, just overpowering smaller, more creative stores because its big and well known.
So really, its a logical step for both the store and the band.

While I do like owning a hard copy of an album its is much easier, cheaper, and convenient to purchase digital music. I still buy the album in the store if its from one of my favorite artists but other than that it is all digital for me... I mean the artist is still getting the same amount of royalties either way you purchase it so I just go the route that will save me a bit of money.POSTED: 06/10/2008 - 03:30 pm / quote |

I live in Canada too, and I dissagree with that. Sure, they have all those bands and more, but they don't have much from them. For example, they'll have two Master of Puppets, 3 St. Angers and 1 Black Album.

I will have absolutely no shame in downloading this illegally. Wal-Mart is ruining music. :
Actually, considered that they are pioneers to alot of bands, they have much more influence as a band than some. They have better songs, too. I mean, compare them to Aerosmith, who are byfar the biggest disappointment in rock. I think that Aerosmith sold out in the 1980s by changing its style of music completely. I think that personally, it was their worst possible mistake. Now, that's not saying I have disrespect for their 80's songs, which were good, but they could have updated their 70's rock to make songs in the vein of sleazy, hard rock. After Get a Grip, all went downhill for their songs. ACDC, however, has managed the 80's with stride. Back In Black and the Razor's Edge are the best ACDC albums of the 1980's. ACDC has more influence as a metal band. Also, GNR basically rewrote the rules of what Aerosmith started. They made songs that took the Aerosmith vein of hard rock and made what could be mistaken for Steven Tyler's songwriting. ACDC and GNR. Best. So, I see why this would help with CD buying. I would definitely go to Wal-Mart to buy that CD, anyday(Even if it is Wal-Mart... Go to F.Y.E., for other releases.)POSTED: 06/10/2008 - 06:44 pm / quote |

third I fricken hate mal-wart because it is ridicoulously evil. all the reasons have already been stated. fourth I LOVE having the actual album because it beats crappy censored, bad quality, etc. I am desperatly hoping that they don't do the same thing in canada because that would suck.
With any other band I would definetly just download the album or borrow from a friend to stick it on my computer but AC/DC is an immense exception. I simply must have the real album. So heres my plan. I know its dull and simple but hey I simply hate mal-wart. I'll run in blindfolded guided by an extremly brave friend (haven't decided who yet) this brave guy or girl will run me to the awful cd section where im sure there will be a towering stack of AC/DC cd's and I will grab about fifty. then with the money people have paid me in advance I will buy all of them and as im about to leave I will simply shit in as many places as possible with the help of my brave commerade. As for people who say "its just the same 3 chords" etc you are the exact same people who would be critical of AC/DC if they done something "different" and say "this is not the way AC/DC should play they have disapionted the fans" etc. They are a good rock band who play what the fans want to hear they have never disapointed their fans.
