Los Angeles-based band Earlimart are set to release their fifth album, Mentor Tormentor, August 21st. Mentor Tormentor is the follow-up to the band's critically-acclaimed 2004 release Treble & Tremble, which garnered considerable praise from Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Interview Magazine, among many others, while the band went on to play sold-out shows across the U.S.
Mentor Tormentor was written and produced by Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray at The Ship, the band's studio in Eagle Rock, CA, and mixed by Dave Trumfio at Kingsize Soundlabs in Los Angeles. Recording in their own studio gave Espinoza, Ariana Murray and Joel Graves the luxury to write, record and shape Mentor Tormentor at their own pace, working with drummers Scott McPherson and Russell Pollard. From countless songs and takes, the record began to take form in late 2006. The final 15-track line-up of songs is the band's strongest and most collaborative work to date.
The CD will be released on Majordomo Records, an imprint formed as a partnership between Earlimart and Shout! Factory, allowing the band greater creative freedom. Majordomo Records will also sign and produce other like-minded artists.
In spring '07, Earlimart performed at the famed Getty Museum in L.A. backed by The String Dream Team, turning the band into a nine-piece orchestral extravaganza. The show was sold out within hours of the announcement. They also played at this year's Noise Pop Festival and opened up LA's newest venue, ExPlx, last week, previewing material from the record. Earlimart will celebrate the release of Mentor Tormentor in August with a few select dates, joined by The String Dream Team (all dates below), with a full U.S. tour in the works for the fall.
