Yellowcard Going On Indefinite Hiatus

Popular pop-punk act Yellowcard have announced plans to go on an "indefinite hiatus" in a new interview. Frontman Ryan Key told The Minaret:

"We are calling it an "Indefinite Hiatus." After this tour, so, I don't know. It could be a year, 10 years, or 6 months. It's been an interesting time in this business and our record label. It's just. We kind of need a break. I think it appears everything is ok on its surface but we definitely need a little bit of time to figure out our personal lives.

"It doesn't have anything to do with turmoil in the band. It's more of a, facing adulthood now, and we can't stay in Neverland forever. You know what I mean. I think we just need a break. Hopefully we will get back to making another record sometime, if not it may be our last but we don't really know."

The band released "Paper Walls" last year.

the whole ocean avenue record was quite good, i kinda lost touch with them after that. and i'm glad Regression mentioned the drums, their drummer is pretty kick ass.

This is a bit of a shame. It seems like every year something goes on with them, Like losing Ben Harper, Then Pete, and now this. I do like their music. They're actually good musicians.

If any pop punk band should go on hiatus, it shouldn't be Yellowcard. There's plenty of other really shit bands under that genre. If anything, Yellowcard is one of the very few more talented pop punk bands.

he seems like a down-to-earth guy. i'm not a big fan of them but you gotta respect them for agreeing on a break instead of having a nasty break up like various bands from the 80s lol. p.s. if you are looking for a pop-punk band with a sick violinist then check out zox.

oh man this sucks..these guys are one of my favorite bands..they put put out paper walls and lights and sounds pretty quick after eachother so hopefully theyrre just a little tired out and maybe will come back in a year in a half or two years..rock on yellowcard!

They've been so productive. It's a shame they decided to go on an indefinite hiatus. Pete (the bassist) plays guitar for another great band: Inspection 12. Both bands are good friends, hence the addition of Pete in earlier albums.

dude!!! this sucks!! yellowcard were awesome (definitely one of the top pop-punk bands)..plus they were great musicians and were constantly challenging themselves by exploring new sounds..what really ticks me off is that this news is posted third to the fact that Fall Out Boy wants to play a show in Antarctica!!..Seriously! WHO CARES?? Yellowcard just broke up! This is definitely worthy of being the top story!

at one of their shows they said they were going to be touring through 2009 and they've seemed a bit unstable since "lights and sounds" being a failure. paper walls was a pretty good album though (nothing superb but not a disappointment). i hope they make more music, they're one of my favorite bands.

I havent really listened to em much lately, but i did like em awhile back. Its too bad that alot of bands have gone "on hiatus" in the past year or so. DFA79, Moros Eros, the Blood Brothers, System of a Down, Blink-182, and now Yellowcard. Its really too bad, b/c alot of em made qualty music.

My friend was at their last concert for this tour and told me they had said things about the hiatus. How they had lost their vision as a band and how they were taking their fans for granted, stuff like that.

I shunned them around the time of Ocean Avenue and wrote them off...even though "Only One" was a song I secretly liked. Then I gave them a chance after I heard "Lights and Sounds," bought the album on a whim, and was totally impressed with the musicianship.

So was my friend, then he followed up with "Paper Walls," which didn't have as much of an impact, but still showed them as a maturing band who actually pushes themselves to find new sounds and become better musicians.

But as my friend and I looked into Yellowcard, we found out they've been quite rocky as a band. Their original singer wasn't even Ryan Key, he came in as a guitarist. The only member that's still left from the original line-up is the drummer, who is a beast, btw.

I guess I'm not too surprised this came up, but there's always something seeming to go on within this band holding them back.

Like somebody else said, all you kids who are missing them now should definately use this as a jumping-off point to start listening to Zox.

Yellowcard was a good band, and they had a certain uniqueness to them that much of the music on the radio these days is lacking. They'll be missed, I suppose.

yellowcard has been one of my favorite bands since 2004. i finally saw them last month in orlando florida for the acoustic tour. they played amazingly and i got to meet them and get autographs

i hope this is a temporary hiatus unlike blink-182 :[

Uhh...pretty sure you can't put Blink in the category of bands that have recently gone on hiatus.

This news sucks though. I've been a fan of all the stuff they've put out since the Underdog EP.

I first heard this band when Ocean Avenue came out and I thought it was a decent album, and at the time was into the band. I lost interest in them later, but then a little while ago I got back into them upon hearing Lights and Sounds. Paper Walls came out after that, and then I was hooked again.

If you haven't heard it already, I would reccomend listening to the song Takedown on Paper Walls. This song kinda came outta nowhere for me, as it has a huge guitar solo not usually found in their genre. It was a refreshing change of pace.

That's why I'm pretty disappointed with the news. =(

It's a shame about Yellowcard They're my favorite band and the integration of the violin into their music was just genius. So many songs of theirs just wouldn't be the same without it, such as Believe, Breathing, Light Up The Sky - you name it and they've got a great violin addition.

Hopefully they get all their problems sorted out I've still to get a chance to see them!
