Weiland Checks Into Jail |

According to People.com, former Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland checked into a Van Nuys, California, jail yesterday (May 12) to serve eight days for a second DUI conviction.
The Stone Temple Pilots frontman surrendered at 8:55 a.m., according to the sheriff's inmate web site.
Weiland was sentenced on April 28 to 192 hours in jail for a November 2007 DUI in Los Angeles. The singer also received four years' probation, was fined $2,000, and was ordered to take part in an 18-month alcohol program. He was potentially looking at a year behind bars for DUI with a prior conviction. At the time of his November arrest, Weiland had just finished a previous three-year-probation for a 2004 DUI arrested. He declined to take a chemical test after the November incident. He was booked and released after posting $40,000 bail, subsequently checking into a rehab facility in February.
Weiland told satellite shock jock Howard Stern last month that he is working on his second solo album with producer Steve Albini for a November release. Weiland was joined on the call by NO DOUBT drummer Adrian Young, who is also playing on the record. A release date and title have yet to be revealed. Weiland's first solo effort, "12 Bar Blues", was issued in 1998.
Weiland, who was dismissed from Velvet Revolver on April 1, has reunited with Stone Temple Pilots for a lengthy spring and summer tour, beginning at Columbus, Ohio's Rock on the Range festival on May 17.
Stone Temple Pilots have tentative plans to enter the studio later this year once they're done with their mammoth summer reunion tour, but fans shouldn't expect to hear any new material in the upcoming trek's live set list. Bassist Robert DeLeo told The Pulse of Radio that the group plans to reacquaint itself and its fans with STP's previous five albums first. "I think new material will come probably after this tour, but I think getting back to the things that got us together, the songs and the material and the reasons we got together in the first place, I think, is a strong place to start, and just make this something that is enjoyable for everyone," he said. "Enjoyable for us, enjoyable for the fans, enjoyable for people that are coming to the show."
Stone Temple Pilots officially announced their reunion with a private performance for about 350 people last month at the Houdini Mansion in Los Angeles. The event might be released as part of a DVD.
Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

Yeah. These celebrities are supposed to be 'role-models,' yet look at the kind of stuff they get up to. DUI, along with substance abuse and all the rest. They need to be given fairer sentences simply to show others that it's not ok.
At the moment, it's looking like stardom is a great way of getting what you want, when you want it, and freedom from the consequences of your actions. People like this guy, including Amy Whinehouse, need a good bitchslap. Our justice system could do with one aswell.POSTED: 05/13/2008 - 08:42 am / quote |

Yeah but any Joe who's on his 2nd offense isn't likely to soon go on a sell-out national tour for 3 months generating enough positive income to boost local economies across the states.

Yeah, that'll help the fact that our economy is still in the toilet. They create income for themselves, not for the towns. People from those cities are spending money at the shows, for a 4 dollar bottle of water. It doesn't help if they are bringing in help for the local economy, it still cost 50 bucks to see a show.POSTED: 05/13/2008 - 11:50 am / quote |

In an ideal world, the people like Weiland who get into drugs and the whole 'lifestyle' wouldn't be role models. But the fact remains that people do look up to celebrities. A bit of responsibility on their part wouldn't go amiss.
Saying that, noone is perfect and they're entitled to make mistakes and screw up their lives just like anyone else is. The real arguement is more to do with the legal system giving them lighter sentencing. POSTED: 05/14/2008 - 05:01 am / quote |

: his celebrity status has nothing to do with him getting a light sentence.....HIS MONEY IS WHAT GOT HIM A LIGHT SENTENCE....if you can afford a lawyer that is better at his job than any prosecutor on the planet, then you have a pretty good shot at getting away with anything....go ask OJPOSTED: 05/14/2008 - 10:42 am / quote |

I think it's funny how he gets arrested for DUI and spends eight days in Jail, when anyone else would get a least a year for the second offense. Thats our justice system for ya.
Our justice system could do with one aswell.
They didn't ask to be role models
of course they asked to be role models, if they didn't want to be a model, they shouldn't try to be famous.
i hate how celebrity's get off so easy. its a system "for the people by the people" yet 97% of the country gets ****ed over while the rich get a few days of punishment for almost hurting innocent people.
No he didn't ask to be famous. He was singing in a band... when you're out playing the gigs in bars and clubs are you trying to be famous? No you're trying to make a living by doing what you love.
Scott Weiland obviously has no intention of trying to be a role model, so why the hell would you look up to him as one? |
Exactly my point.POSTED: 05/14/2008 - 02:08 pm / quote |
