Secret Machines Lose Guitarist

artist: secret machines date: 03/07/2007 category: general music news

The prog rock trio Secret Machines are one machine short. Yesterday, it was announced on the band's official message board that guitarist and founding member Benjamin Curtis is leaving the Brooklyn group for a new project, School of Seven Bells.

"Unfortunately, I must share that after 7 and 1/2 years of playing music together Benjamin has decided to no longer be a part of the band," wrote singer and Benjamin's brother, Brandon Curtis. "It is a sad day but also an exciting one as he prepares to focus full time on his new creative venture, School of Seven Bells. He has told me that he expects to be finished with a new record very soon as well as there being plans in the works to play some shows here in New York debuting the band. Of course Josh [Garza, the third Secret Machine] and I wish him all the best."

The Secret Machines have released two critically acclaimed records Now Here Is Nowhere and Ten Silver Drops. They are currently working on a third record, their first as a duo. Recording is to begin some time in May.

I love this band, hopefully the remaining two will be able to keep the standard up 'cause both albums as a trio were fantastic.

Will look forward to the School of Seven Bells album too, it can't be bad if it has Ben Curtis.

Wow, that is too bad, I know that the band was not a 1 person band so I expect the Secret Machines will stand up and finally get their great Secret out, they Plain Rock in a way most bands do not come near.

All the people who are saying "Who?" are missing out big time. Go get Ten Silver Drops: its a great record. I don't know how they'll work without the guitarist, seeing as his melodies are probably the best part of their music... but I guess I'll just have to see.
