My Chemical Romance 'Flatline'

My Chemical Romance have sent out a oblique message on their website, prompting fans to speculate on their future.

On TheBlackParade.com there is a repeated image of a hospital monitor’s flatline and the message “00 BPM” on the bottom right hand side of the screen.

The band played as fictional group The Black Parade during their world tour earlier this year with singer Gerard Way telling the crowd on the opening night of a show in Plymouth: “We are The Black Parade.”

Fans have suggested that the message does not indicate the end of the band but the end of the ’Black Parade’ era.

On fansite Unleash The Bats, user Differentmind wrote: “I actually think that is pretty clever if they are referring to the fact that The Black Parade is supposedly dead.”

Meanwhile Jennasie wrote: “It’s because they will never play as The Black Parade ever again so they are like..dead. Flat lining.”

My opinion on MCR:

First, I really don't see why everyone bashes them. Sure, they're a stereotypical 'emo' band, but so what? They have some shitty songs, but they have their share of good songs as well.

And if you think I'm just some emo MCR fanboy, I really don't care for them too much - it's more so that I can tolerate them. If someone likes MCR, I don't flame them to death. If I hear an MCR song on the radio, I usually won't change it (meh, depending on the song, but you get the idea).

Anyways, to anyone saying "l0l i hope da band fl4tlines wat emos", how about you just don't listen to them? Besides, if they do break up, there's hundreds of other bands out there that I gaurentee are much worse than these guys.

To the best of my knowledge I have NEVER heard anything by My Chemical Romance, but either way that would be a pretty creative way of telling the fans something about their state as a band or their mindset as a band.

I am hoping it means the end of the Black Parade, not the band. They are my favourite band (have been for almost 4 years now), and it would really be a disappointment to me if they broke up. I loved Bullets and Revenge, and although the Black Parade was a good album, it was definitely not as good as the other two. (This is just my opinion-to each his own) I missed the creepiness from the first two records. Fuck it if ignorant *******s, call them 'emo'-they were more fun back then.

this is pretty cool. Bands really should move on, and finally they have. But of course, that means it back to mostly singles live and not the two best songs on the album, This Is How I Disappear and The Sharpest Lives. The singles definately are overplayed. IMO, this was their best album. Bullets was a sloppy, metalcore-ish effort, but it did show off Ray's guitar playing some, mostly b/c Frank did 2 songs on it. Three Cheers was polished and not sloppy at all, but was waaaay too poppy with the exception of a few songs. The Black Parade was great, some very scewed-up, experimental, crazy songs on it. Much better songs than either of the previous albums. But it wouldve been interesting to see how ppl wouldve rected to the working title they started with, The Rise and Fall of My Chemical Romance. That wouldve been crazy.

Ok, it's good that they attempted (if slightly poorly) to tackle a concept or story album, but "The Black Parade" (aside from being stage uniforms) just looked like a form of merchandising to me. I'd like them to continue making music (well, not like, but just.. I don't really care), but to lose the idea that a concept is an album, suit and merchandise ethic all in one.

Power chord emo punk isnt amazing guitar work, listen to blues and classic metal and compare it to MCR. A retarded tone deaf monkey could write catchy powerchord progression. Man I'm sick of this band, they're not that bad or anything but they aren't exactly the greatest group there is. From what I've seen the lead guitarist is the only one with lots of talent, the rest are pretty average really.

I mean, for god's sake, they might not like emo but they have certinaly exibited signs of emo in the past, and still do now. Gerard going around saying "emo is a pile of shit" is a pretty ignorant statement anyway because not all emo is terrible, the same way slandering any entire genre is a stupid and arrogant thing to do.

It just seems to me like that band is in massive denial of their sell-out status, and maybe don't like being so "popular", but they never exactly did anything to stop it happening. Plus, Gerard's way (excuse the pun) of dealing with it just seems pathetic and childish, being all melodramatic about it, which by the way is pretty "emo" if you ask me.

It's a shame cause when I saw the article title I was looking forward to the band breaking up, but instead it's just more melodrama from the boys who just wont seem to come out of the closet.

If you watch the live video of "Our Lady of sorrows" live from Lotms, you'll probably notice the fans are no where close to "preppy 12 year olds". However, when it comes to The Black Parade fans, most are emos and 12 year old preps, see it yourself. I have total respect for the band but for most of the fans, i do not. I'm not particularly enamored with MCR's music, but saying "OLOL DEY SHUD BRAKE UP LOLOL MIKEWL" just makes you seem like a childish imbecile.

Hell, MCR aren't even emo. Emo is a genre mainly filled with self-hate, et cetera (as you can tell, I despise the music). MCR's lyrics, to my (admittedly limited) experience, are "things are terrible right now, but they will get better", which is obviously a more positive message.

There will always be bands you hate; get over it. As I stated previously, I can't stand their music -- which is why I DON'T LISTEN TO THEM (ever try that?).

I doubt you'd be too happy if Diabolical Masquerade pulled a similar trick, inciting BM-haters to do the same as the ignorant fools here have.

To be honest, there's not much indication that MCR are really that Emo. I listened to MCR when three cheers came out (I also thought the album was brilliant tbh) and I didn't have a clue what Emo was.

Also you've got to remember that all of their albums were CONCEPT ALBUMS which means that you can't really accept all their lyrics as autobiographical.

And I'd rather listen to MCR than fall out boy or any other emo pop-punk bands.

And if we're on the subject of guitars then Ray Toro is by no means a bad guitarist considering the genre he's in. The other dude also has great stage presence and gerrard way can actually sing and can actually write.

Being honest though I'm also glad the black parade era is over, least they can kinda be normal-ish again.

It's crazy the fact that every article of MCR I read, people argue about their being EMO.

My opinion, EMO has been warped into this candy-pop genre every teenie is gunning for. It's not MCR's fault that their music gets played again and again. If you have some issues with that, complain to the DJs.

It's sad to hear that TBP has ended, but I heard they're going back to their Bullets style of music.

My Chemical Romance is definitely NOT breaking up. If you have attended to several of their concerts, you should be able to know what’s the difference between performing as My Chemical Romance and performing as The Black Parade. They want to stop ‘The Black Parade Tour’ now. For that fact, they are not going to dress up with the black/white uniform, and they only want to get to pure My Chemical Romance again. If you have heard their new song supposedly called “Stay”, you can hear that they are going back to ‘Bullets’. And yeah, they are starting off by getting rid of all The Black Parade material and getting in new stuff. But yeah, guys… the band is taking a break this year, and the new album is believed to come out on 2009. Also, as I am looking at some of the comments, many people are saying that this article lacks on information. That’s right; any single one of us knows what’s going on with all of this.
