Metallica's 'Mission' Went Live

Metallica's new web site, MissionMetallica.com, launched yesterday, showcasing the kind of "making-of-the-album" features usually found these days on a DVD accompanying a CD release.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told a Los Angeles radio station last Monday (May 5), "We thought, instead of doing the usual DVDs and all that, why don't we just do it on the Internet and people can kind of tune in every day, watch clips, contests, get updates for what's going on with the record and kind of watch the last couple of months of song titles, album titles, final mixes...So it's kind of a little bit of a countdown type of thing. It should be fun."

However, the "beta" site has since been shut down, but the trailer and the teaser clip that were posted on the site have been released via YouTube and can be viewed here and at this location respectively.

MissionMetallica.com was originally scheduled to launch tomorrow (May 12). Ulrich also told the station, "Knock on wood, this week should be our last week in the studio," adding that the group expects to get its ninth album out in September.

Metallica will top the bill for the annual "Weenie Roast" festival sponsored by Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM. The show, scheduled for May 17 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California, will also feature sets from The Offspring, The Raconteurs, Rise Against, Pennywise, The Bravery, Seether, Scars On Broadway and more.

Ulrich said that fans can expect to hear new material "about five minutes after we finish playing it — thanks to the Internet," although he did not say how soon the band will begin playing some new songs live.

they might actually pull this off, from what i've heard so far they seemed to have went back to their old sound, just with a more modern approach to it obviously, although they said that there would be middle-eastern elements on it, i couldn't find any at all, although these are just still small samples, there is probably more to this album than what we've heard so far, but sounds good still, lets just hope they make this long wait worth it, cos they were workin on this album for such a long ****in time, and we obviously don't want another st. anger, as much as i liked that album it was too repetitive and the drums sounded like trash cans, the riffs were amazin but the production sucked, and james' vocals were off-key, but the songs were good, lyrics were good, it could've been made a decent album if they tweaked a few things e.g. that damn snare drum, james' vocals, gettin a producer who isn't bob rock, and maybe keepin the solos, cos there were solos on a few songs, but they were taken off

guys dont forget the album is more varied, so you might get the odd song that sounds from load, i liked that riff that sounded like kill em all stuff, it was fast

Agreed! Music should progress forwards. All the previous hype talked about going back to puppets style elements was disappointing to me.. I like St.Anger as something totally different.
From the 2 clips on missionmetallica, The new song sounds like a B side off Re-Load, which was the B-sides off Load

Does that make it a C or D side off of Load?

Nice catch Would make it a 'C' side I think. Was thinking of calling it a c side straight off, but i think it may have caused confusion

I think its going to be funny when the album comes out and all these people who had their hopes of it being like the first 4 albums are let down...
It sounds like TBA, Reload to me. Luckily, I like those albums, so I won't have a problem with it!!
