Kaiser Chiefs Cut Tour Short

English Indie Rock band the Kaiser Chiefs are cutting their hyped US tour short, stating the need to focus on new material. Although they have halted the tour, shows will still be played in Austin, Texas and New York City. Drummer Nick Hodgson spoke about the unexpected news:

"We’d like to apologize to fans in America and Canada, especially those who have already bought tickets, but something had to give. We’ve been extremely busy all year and had no time to focus on the future, we plan to have new material out as soon as possible and we’ve wanted to record all summer."

He continued on, saying how important it was to prepare for the European shows and playing some of their new songs live:

"This needs to happen before our European & UK shows at the end of the year so we can play a few of our new songs live, we’re keen to explore new ground, beyond the sound of our first two records, so we’re headed back into the studio to begin that process."

The following dates have been cancelled:

09/18 - Dallas, TX, House Of Blues
09/19 - Houston, TX, Warehouse Live
09/21 - Nashville, TN, City Hall
09/22 - Atlanta, GA, The Roxy
09/24 - Chicago, IL, Cabaret Metro
09/25 - Detroit, MI, Majestic Theatre
09/26 - Toronto, ONT, Carlu Theatre

They obviously desperately need to record another album of turgid 'indie' toss which sounds exactly the same as the last one to cash in before everyone realises how terrible they actually are. Seriously, why even report on this stuff on UG? No self respecting guitarist gives a monkey's

Sorry, but The Kaiser Chiefs are a really good band - I am a metal head and 80's rocker mainly, and the Kaisers are the only Indie band I actually listen to because they are good...really good.

It is bad that they have cancelled shows that people have actually bought tickets to go and see with no good reason like 'the singer has damaged his voice' or 'the guitarist has broke his arm' - not that I'd want those things to happen - but a new album would be good...it shows that they are one of the few bands who actually want more than one album out and on a regular basis...

I can't see how they're in such a rush to record that they need to disappoint fans like that. They've had two albums in two years, that's above most bands' outputs.

Like I said, they have to churn out another album before their day in the sun runs out, just like it did with The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand. This kind of music is very much of its moment, people will not be listening to this band 5 years down the line

i don't know what maverick is on about, the strokes last album was absolutely brilliant and i guess they havent really got anything else out due to that albert hammond jnr doing a little solo project. Franz Ferdinand had two great albums and i believe they are going to release some things in the near future which should be good!

even though they are not technical guitarists they are great artists, if you search them on UG obviously self respecting guitarists like them coz they have louds of hits

Whether or not their albums were good or not is a matter of opinion, the fact stands that no one bought them. In fact the last Strokes album did so badly that they were dropped by their record label. They had their day in the sun and soon they'll become a thing of the past just like every other indie band these days, or are you still listening to Travis and The Thrills?

It seems there are more and more bands doing this now. Do bands have any loyalty to their fans anymore, fans that buy these albums? I personally dont care because I'm not a hugh kaiser chiefs fan, but i hate it when bands let down their fans like this.

I don't know who keeps saying they're a crappy band, seeing these guys live is an experience. It was one of the best shows I've ever been to, loud, riffing guitars, you name it. The album, for some reason, had the guitar's productions toned down. Which sucks, because they really are amazing live. This is coming from someone who is into hard rock too.

Like he said, they've been very busy and "something had to give" It happens to most bands, regardless of experience. As for being reported on here, when I listen to Kaiser Chiefs, I can here guitars and catchy riffs, therefore they qualify twice to be on here

That's exactly what I thought when it was released...

Anyway, they probably dropped the US tour because they didn't get as many fans as the arrogant wangers expected they would. Go USA! You can tell a shit band a mile off!
