Joining Velvet Revolver Would Be Awkward For Bach

Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach was interviewed on Tuesday, May 6 on "The Buckethead Show" on Tampa's 98 Rock radio station.

During the interview, Bach was asked if there is any truth to the rumors that he is being considered for the lead-singer position in Velvet Revolver following that group's recent split with Scott Weiland.

"I've talked to Slash [Velvet Revolver/ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist] recently," Sebastian revealed. "I think it'd be really awkward for me to join that band. Number one, my new record, 'Angel Down', I like it more than Velvet Revolver records. That's just being totally honest.

"I love Guns N' Roses material, but I've got my own old songs — Skid Row — so for me, it would all depend on music. I wouldn't just join the band just to join the band. If we came up with some incredible new songs, then maybe I'd think about it, but honestly, I'm very close friends with Axl, and he sings three songs on my new record. I think Dr. Pepper owes me a case of free soda. [Laughs] [Referring to the Dr. Pepper soft drink company's announcement that it will offer a free can of its signature soda to 'everyone in America' if GN'R releases its long-delayed new album, 'Chinese Democracy', in 2008 — Ed.]

"Axl's been so nice to me — he's helped me out my whole career. In Skid Row he helped us out, and in my solo band he brought me around the world, and then sang three songs on my new CD, which is pretty mind-blowing. I don't know… It's a cut-throat business, but Axl's been so nice to me, I don't think I would feel comfortable just joining Velvet Revolver and singing his songs every night. So I don't think that's gonna happen."

From what I understand, Bach is friends with all the guys, including Slash and Axl, and he just doesn't want to, and shouldn't have to, choose sides. VR is a different sort of music than Bach's as well. And he was considered for the position before Scott and it didn't work out. Why would it work out now?

TBH, I like Bach, and I like VR, but they really don't mesh well together - even if Skid Row was a more down-to-earth band in the Hair Metal explosion. Also, bach said before it wouldn't work, so it's worth just leaving it at that, and grabbing a more appropriate vocalist for VR.

I met Sebastian after a Pantera concert in Peoria IL on the Reinventing the Steel Tour. He opened, Anthrax followed. It was a great show. Afterwards I was knee deep in snow walking out of the venue wear one shoe and no shirt. A tour bus pulled up to the curb. Out came Sebastian and he literaly gave me the shirt of his back. He said, " here man put this on it's f*ckin freezing out here". Very cool guy that's all I'm saying VR was alright thank god STP is back together.But GnR is wasted up. Axle finished democracy without them not a good sign, that's all I'm saying. The whole point, Sebastian is a reasonably talented and exceedingly humane, Very cool guy.

i like alot of his songs, you can't really say that because it's opinion. I mean, slash is pretty much my favorite guitarist, but i think velvet revolver sucks with the exception of like 2 songs, that doesn't mean it's true though.

There was a group in the 1980s called the Firm and it had Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers. It only had one hit. VR may have managed much better, due to this world of constant star exposure, but the fact is that Sebastian Bach is amazing. He and GNR are both amazing in their own rights and I'm glad he is solo. He doesn't need a band, anymore.
