Coldplay Give Away New Single

Coldplay will allow fans a free download of the lead single from their upcoming fourth studio album "Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends."

Starting today (April 29), the song "Violet Hill" will be available for a week at the British rock band's Web site. The track, which will be serviced to radio from tomorrow, will get a conventional paid-for digital release on May 6.

While "Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends" is due on June 17 via Capitol in North America, the U.K. release date has been moved up four days to June 12 to bring it into line with global release dates, according to EMI.

In support of the album, Coldplay will also play free shows at London's Brixton Academy on June 16 and Madison Square Garden in N.Y. on June 23. A competition for tickets will be announced on the band's Web site.

As previously reported, "Vida La Vida..." was produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs. "We're still obsessed with making songs that can be sung to the rafters" Coldplay frontman Chris Martin explained. "We just wanted to present them differently."

I got the e-mail after about 3 minutes. The song is really basic. I love the distortion on the guitar, kind of a ripping noise. Like Jack White might use or Eternally Missed by Muse, of course the guitar is used much more sparingly.

So I got through, after like 2 hours of pressing F5. Compared to some of their other songs this was pretty mediocre(this is coming from a fan). I still liked the song though. It has multiple guitar solos in it, which is pretty un-coldplay-ish. I hope the new album will sound like X&Y, because even though everyone's always pissing on it, X&Y is the album that made me fall in love with Coldplay, and I still think it's their best.

i downloaded it at about 8:30 central which was about an hour or so after they released it and the site was taking a long time to load but i got the email after a few minutes. its a pretty good song, hopefully the album is as good if not better.

yeah just copy and paste the whole url into the browser. the same thing happened with me..

See above to the obviously, less then average educated, Greg Harper's comment...he believe this album will make them popular? only cause no one wants to buy it? Well, first off, your comment makes no sense...Second, as far as people not wanting to buy Coldplay records, each one of their albums has sold in excess of 10 million copies, and Viva La Vida will do just as good, if not better. And you don't believe they're popular? Maybe you are talking about another Coldplay...

Okay, so I finally heard the song on their myspace page. All I can say as that man have they taken things up a notch. Their new record is should be pretty experimental and special if it follows the nature of "Violet Hills."

The production sounds better to me, a little more earthy what with none of the constant synth chords that flooded their last 2 albums. Decent song, especially the ending with the piano slightly behind the vocals worked well. I expect there will be better tracks on the album though.
