Busted Vs. Simon Cowell

artist: busted date: 09/16/2004 category: general music news

Busted have lashed out at Simon Cowell and his new TV talent show The X Factor. The chart-topping trio, responsible for hits like Crashed The Wedding and What I Go To School For, accused Cowell's ITV1 show of "making a mockery of the British music industry".

The X Factor sees Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh join Cowell on the judging panel, and there is no upper age limit on those who audition. Busted frontman Charlie Simpson said: "I just watched this and thought, 'This is most ridiculous thing I have ever seen'. It was like they were sat in a meeting and thought, 'How can we make it more interesting, seeing as we've had two bullsh*t Pop Idols that no one likes anymore?'."

He added: "So now they have these 60, 70-year-old people coming up. It's just like, when are you going to stop making a mockery of the British music industry? Look how many people have released records through those shows and how many names you remember. You don't remember any of them."

Speaking about why they did not sign with Cowell, fellow band member James Bourne said: "It would have been a dictatorship. No matter what anyone says, Simon Cowell, he would tell you what to do."

60 or 70 year old people? This is terrible! How can they possibly have people so unmarketable!
Trust busted to come up with something like that. True, Pop Idol is manufactured to a painfull degree, but so are Busted.

Oh my god! Another attempt by Busted to show how 'punk' they are. Maybe they don't realise that their music is just as manufactured as anything done by Cowell, just with more volume and 'aggresion'. These guys are what is really ruining the British music business, and taking attention away from better+ more talented bands.

Excuse me, but when did Busted EVER claim to be punk? They know where they stand, they know they're pop. Who cares? It's just a genre of music that some people happen to like.

I agree with them about reality TV shows though.

its a matter of opinion; busted is obviously not aimed at people like you (thats to everyone who doesn't like em) not everyone likes your kind of music. don't diss cause you dont like their style.

ha ha. music reality tv shows. so good. i man so cr*p too. but entertaining. simon cowell is sexy for an old man..but then again matt from busted is sexy.
anyhoo this is about the music not the sexyness
some of u guys really shouldnt act like you know loads about music and therefore diss busted for being punk, cos if you actually listened to some of their stuff you'd realise they're a pop act. and they know they're pop. they just, like some of us, like to plug in and have a bit of aggression in they're music when they're live. (yes thats right, they do play live) i they're tres entertaining...
