Arctic Monkeys Beat Radiohead To Claim South Bank Prize

Arctic Monkeys second album ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ has been awarded with the Pop Music prize at the South Bank Awards.

The album held off Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’, which was also nominated for the award, at a ceremony in London January 29th.

Control, the film about the life and death of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, failed to pick up the award for Best Film, however.

Best Film eventually went to This is England, which also beat the Oscar nominated Atonement to claim the prize.

The South Bank Awards will be broadcast on ITV on February 3rd at 10.40pm.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Monkeys- but In Rainbows is a better album by far.

Very Far though it is a Pop contest and I guess Radiohead is too experimental for them.

favourite worst nightmare is a great album
but it's true, in rainbows is better
in rainbows is rather poppy actually and not THAT experimental so it could've won
kudos to the monkeys though and i wish them success

To be fair though, 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' is more a left field album compared to thier first, wheras, compared to thier previous body of work, Radiohead's latest offering is far more commercial. However, both albums are excellent in thier own right.
