Against Me Cafe Brawl

It started out as such a nice a gentle punk rock evening. The lead singer of Against Me! and his girlfriend had stopped at a cafe for a spot of tea and ended with the singer smashing another patron's head against a counter. And it was all over a little extra commentary applied to an article about his band.

Tom Gabel had just ordered his tea and walked into the rest room when all hell broke loose according to tallahassee.com. Seems Gabel found an article about his band pinned to the wall. Instead of saying for a good time call, someone had defaced the article with obscenities, which angered him greatly. So he tore down the article and tossed it into the emo basket (trashcan). Another patron asked Gabel why he had torn down the fine altered article and according to the victim's friend a shouting match ensued between the singer and the victim before escalating into violence.

Gabel reportedly then knocked the cup out of the hand of his questioner, Jared Smith. Smith told the police that Gabel proceeded to grab him by the neck and forced his head into the wooden counter before a man entered the cafe, headbutted Gabel and put him into a headlock. The mysterious crime fighter exited before the police showed up.

When questioned by the police Gabel admitted that he knocked over Smith's cup but denied assaulting him. Gabel was arrested and taken to the Leon County Jail. He was released early Tuesday morning on $500 bail. Smith said he was not injured, just upset and scared over the incident.

Dude, 'emo basket' is probably what the cafe labeled the trash can. Lots of little indie places like to do funny stuff like that. The reporter probably went to the actual cafe and saw that, and thought he'd throw it in since it's a music related article, but obviously did not realize that it was pointless and confusing to include.

Tom seems like a nice enough guy that I believe him when he said he only knocked the guy's cup out of his hand. He doesn't seem like the type to get into random fights.

I can still respect Tom's, earlier work such as "Reinventing Axl Rose" and even "As The Eternal Cowboy", and wont forget that i do.
but i think it seems he got in a little over his head (now that he's on sire, and has an article in Rolling Stone issue 1033)by getting in a fight over something so small. There's always going to be people who don't respect what you do, so I am not impressed by the fact Tom had to 'throw a fit'.

But, it had obscenities added to it, fair enough putting it in the trash, thats just some other loser being a prick. If you dislike the band that much, write your own, proper article describing why they are not good.
