Blues Lessons. Part 5 - Practice

author: UG Team date: 07/31/2003 category: music styles

First, take a look at the scale used:

--------------------------------10-13---------------------
-------------------------11--13---------------------------
-------------------10-12----------------------------------
-------------10-12----------------------------------------
-------10-13----------------------------------------------
-10-13----------------------------------------------------

Play it carefelly. First slowly and then play more and more quickly. But don't forget the goal is not to play like a chainsaw! You got it? Ok let's play the bluuuees. Very important: read carefully the notation and play effects asI tell you. Play in the good timing.
Notation:
- The 1 & 2 &... helps you to play in the time.
- pb: pre-bend, first bend the string until you get a note one
step higher, then strike the string and release.
- b: bend.
- p: pulling-off. Make sure to make sound it good.
- s: silence. Don't make noise!
- h: hammer.

Try to make it sound. Don't really think about the way you're playing but just about what you're playing. Just look at BB King, Buddy Guy for example, you can see they're playing with their heart. They're living lessons. Just think you're Jimi Hendrix and play.
